his weeks post is a wee bit late. I spent the weekend with my sister, who is my upline, crafting and helping at her 3 classes she held!
So being a bit knackered today, I wanted to share something simple, and a few techniques to go along with it. Hence, the adorable Postcard Pals set! If you like to color, this project is for you! Come have a look at how cute this set is!
All you need for these cards are small Note Cards and Envelopes
(or Whisper White paper cut to 5" x 7" score at 3 1/2" and fold
The rest is just stamp and color!
I will share 3 ways to color with the Water Color Pencils and show you the different looks you can achieve with them.
This is a brand new set, I had not even opened it yet, so I want to share what I do with my rubber stamps when I first get them.
Like everyone else, I usually start by taking them out and putting the labels on all the stamps. I found I had some problems getting them to stick on my clear blocks though when stamping (a known issue that Stampin' UP! is currently working on a solution for...stay tuned.) So I found that putting a few dots of Tombow glue on the labels, spread it thinly and let dry. It leaves just enough tacky-ness that they work great on the blocks. Best of all, it leaves no residue! Give it a try!
These images are so crisp and cute as the dickens! Take Basic Black Archival ink and stamp each character on a card front. Next, stamp the sentiment. Then, on the inside of the card, stamp the matching sentiment. If you wanted, you could be done right there! These could be so cute just on their own, in simple black and white!
I started with the Otter and simply colored him in with the pencils! Yup, that's it! Took barely any time at all, and I love the soft look!
For the Platypus, I used the same pencils, but dipped them in water before coloring. This gives a richer, more saturated effect. Honestly, this is not my favorite as I did it here, but it really works great as a way to deepen or highlight when you need it. I will be working with this a bit more in the future! :grin
Now the Pelican is my favorite use of the Water Color Pencils! You color lightly, even leaving just outlines of areas to be colored, then you take a paint brush, or an Aqua Painter and paint away! The color spreads like watercolor paints and you can blend and make it look so pretty!
I love to color, its so relaxing. I do this often when I'm watching TV or after work just to chill. As with anything there is a bit of practice involved, and trying different techniques to find what gives you the best results, but it doesn't get any easier to make a cute note card than this really! And in August, Stampin' Up! is adding more Watercolor Pencils in some of the new colors! I'm so excited!
Just so you could see, this set also works really beautifully with Stampin' Blends Markers too! They are currently my favorite way to color...but they do tend to bleed through to the other side, so I generally will put them on an additional piece of paper that I've cut out, and adhere that to a card. (but not on this one)
I hope you give this set a try! They are so stinkin adorable!
Until next week...Happy Stampin!
