F un Christmas card where the rocking horse actually rocks back and forth made with Stampin' Up! products.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock and designer paper pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Very Vanilla Thick Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Real Red Cardstock
- 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" of tiny gold star bursts on vanilla design of Shining Brightly 12" x 12" Specialty Designer Series Paper
- 3" x 4" from Very Vanilla Thick Cardstock
- 1/2" x 4" from Very Vanilla Cardstock
As you are ready to stamp using the Rocking Horse Set, place the cardstock on the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Using the mat will help you get a cleaner image each time you stamp.
Mount the rocking horse image from the Rocking Horse Set on Block E. Ink it up with the Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the 3" x 4" Very Vanilla Thick rectangle.
Note: Regular Very Vanilla Cardstock will also work, but since the image will be rocking on the card front when the card is finished, the Thick Cardstock is better as it is sturdier.
Pick out the matching rocking horse die from the Rocking Horse Dies. Put it on top of the stamped image on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine so it is centered over the image. Run through the machine.
WITHOUT ADHERING, lay the rocking horse cut out on the horizontal piece of Shining Brightly Designer Paper so it is centered side to side and the horse's head is about 1/4 to 3/8" from the top edge. Gently lift the cut out up slightly and use a pencil to mark the center of the rocking horse cut out on the designer paper. Remove the rocking horse cut out.
Pick out one of the tiny block dies from the Rocking Horse Dies. Put it on top of the Shining Brightly Designer Paper rectangle a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine so it is centered over the pencil mark you made (this should be about 1-3/8" from the top and about 2-1/2" from either side). Run through the machine. Keep the large designer paper rectangle with a small square cut in the center.
Cut a 5-3/4" piece of the Real Red ribbon from the Real Red & Burlap Ribbon Combo Pack.
Lay the ribbon across the bottom of the designer paper rectangle with the square cut into the center so it is about 1/2" from the bottom. Fold the ends of the ribbon over and secure the ribbon in place on the back with strips of Tear & Tape Adhesive. LEAVE THE PROTECTIVE BACKINGS IN PLACE!
Place a penny on your work surface. Position the designer paper rectangle with ribbon attached over the top of the penny so it shows through the square cut into the center of the designer paper.
Adhere a Mini Stampin' Dimensional to the center of the penny showing through the hole in the designer paper. Remove the protective backing. Place another Mini Stampin' Dimensional on top of the first getting the edges lined up. Remove the protective backing. Adhere another penny to the top of the stacked dimensionals. You should now have a "penny sandwich" in the hole cut in the designer paper rectangle.
Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the designer paper with ribbon and penny sandwich attached to the center of the Real Red rectangle.
Adhere the Real Red rectangle with designer paper rectangle attached to the front of the Very Vanilla card.
Note: Make sure the ribbon is along the bottom edge of the card front.
Unlock the Banners Pick A Punch. Slide one short edge of the thin vanilla strip into the right side of the punch (the side of the punch with the inward notch) as far as it will go and get it centered. Punch. Repeat on the other end.
Mount the "have a Rockin' Christmas" sentiment from the Rocking Horse Set on Block H. Ink it up with the Real Red Ink Pad. Stamp the sentiment in the center of the punched vanilla strip.
Put a strip of Tear & Tape Adhesive down the center of the back of the punched and stamped sentiment strip. Remove the protective backing. Adhere the sentiment strip to the front of the card so it is centered over the ribbon along the bottom edge of the card.
Place the rocking horse cut out on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface. You need to make sure that you protect your work surface with paper as the Stampin' Blends Markers do bleed through.
Use the Deep Natural Tones Stampin' Blends to color in the rockers and saddle.
Use the Medium Deep Natural Tones Stampin' Blends to color in the horse's tail and mane and to color in the bridle pieces.
Use the Medium Stampin' Blends to color in the rest of the horse's body (not his hooves).
Use the Dark and Light Real Red Stampin' Blends to color in the saddle blanket.
Use the Dark Basic Black Stampin' Blends to color in the horse's hooves and the stirrups.
Use the Color Lifter Stampin' Blends as needed to remove excess color.
Put a couple of tiny pieces of Tear & Tape Adhesive on top of the penny on the front of the card. Remove the protective backings. Adhere the colored rocking horse cut out to the penny so it is centered.
Your card is finished and the rocking horse should rock back and forth a bit.
