H andmade Christmas ornaments using Stampin' Up! products and cardboard star boxes.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock and Glimmer Paper pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- 3-1/4" square from Balmy Blue Glimmer Paper
- 1/2" x 3-1/4" from Whisper White Thick Cardstock
Rub a quarter piece of Stamping Sponge across the open, inked up Whisper White Craft Ink Pad to get it inky. Then, rub it all over the top and sides of the star box half. Get more ink on the sponge piece as needed.
Tip: Cut a Stamping Sponge into quarters using scissors. This will give you more pieces of sponge to work with and will give you more control as the pieces are smaller and easier to hold.
Tip: I just clean my sponge pieces when I'm done using them by running them under water until no more color is coming off. Then, I let them air dry. They may be stained, but they are clean enough to use with any color of ink in the future.
Tip: This is a very messy step, so you might want to wear disposable gloves to protect your hands from ink.
Warning: Craft Ink is permanent on cloth. So, wear old clothes you aren't worried about getting messed up or protect your clothes.
Set the inked up star box half aside to let it dry.
Tip: You can speed up drying a bit by using a Heat Tool if desired.
Unlock the Banners Pick A Punch. Slide one short edge of the Whisper White Thick Cardstock strip into the right side of the punch (the side of the punch with the inward notched top) as far as it will go. Punch. Repeat with the other end.
Tip: You could use regular Whisper White Cardstock for the sentiment banner, but I wanted to make sure it was nice and sturdy so I used the Thick Cardstock.
Mount the "A Merry Little Wish For Lots Of Joy This Season" sentiment from the A Wish For Everything Set on Block G. Ink it up with the Night Of Navy Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the sentiment banner.
Pick out the open, stitched, single star die that cuts out a star that is 2-5/8" wide from the Stitched Stars Dies. Put it on top of the Balmy Blue Glimmer Paper square on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Run through the machine.
Tip: You may have to press fairly hard around the edges to pop the cut out loose from the die.
Use a small strip of Tear & Tape Adhesive on the back of the sentiment banner in the center to adhere the sentiment banner to the front of the glimmer paper star cut out.
Once your star box half is dry, proceed with the next step.
Mount the small star image from the Merry Moose Set on Block A. Ink it up with the Night Of Navy Ink Pad. Stamp it randomly all over the front of the star box half. Remember to re-ink the stamp each time.
Use a dab of hot glue on the back of the star cut out in the center to adhere the star/sentiment banner to the center of the stamped star box half.
Use the handheld circle punch to punch a hole in the top of the star box half edge. Get it as close to the center of the top center ray as possible.
Cut an 8" piece of the Snowflake Splendor 1/4" Ribbon.
Fold the ribbon in half. Tie a half knot as close as possible to the bottom, open ends of the folded ribbon.
Poke the looped end of the ribbon through the hole in the top of the star box half from the back side. Pull the loop through until you get to the knot. This forms the hanging loop at the top of the ornament.
Cut a 5" piece of the 1-1/2" Metallic Mesh Ribbon.
Pick out one Glitter Star Ornament.
Lay the string of the Glitter Star Ornament over the bottom of the Snowflake Splendor Ribbon loop so the star ornament overlaps the top of the glimmer paper star cut out on the front of the star box half.
Tie the 1-1/2" Metallic Mesh Ribbon around the Snowflake Splendor Ribbon and string loop for the Glitter Star Ornament as close to the top of the star box half as possible using a half knot. Adjust the positioning of the Glitter Star Ornament if needed by pulling it up or down.
