T
he Twist and Pop card is a fun surprise for anyone receiving it. You can spend money to buy a die that will cut all the parts for this card out, but why not save your money? You can easily make this with the right measurements and instructions.
You can use these instructions with any DSP and any stamp set you like. I used Hello, Irresistible DSP and Rhino Ready Stamps.
I'd love to see what you come up with using this fold!
Project Recipe
Measurements of Materials
4 ¼” x 11” Pretty Peacock Cardstock (CS) (Scored at 5 ½”) - Card Base
3 ½” x 10” Pretty Peacock CS (Scored at 2 ½”, 5”, 7 ½”) - Inside Piece
3 ½” x 8” Pretty Peacock CS (Scored at 1 ¾” on short side) - Mechanism Piece
5 ¼” x 4” Hello, Irresistible Designer Series Paper (DSP) (Cut 3)
2 ¼” x 3 ¼” White CS (Cut 4)
Scraps of Early Espresso, Old Olive, Pretty Peacock, and Lost Lagoon CS to make the tag, tree and leaves for the front of the card.
Cut and Score all pieces.
Building the Card
• Fold and Burnish the Card Base (4 1/4" x 11" Piece of Pretty Peacock Paper) at the score line.
• Attach the DSP to the front and insides of the card base.
• Cut, stamp, and matt the tag.
• Decorate and embellish the front of the card as desired.
• Burnish the inside piece (3 1/2" x 10" Pretty Peacock Paper) on all the score lines. The folds will alternate to create a Valley, Mountain, and Valley.
• Stamp all the white pieces and attach to the inside piece of CS.
Making the Mechanism - 3 1/2" x 8" Piece of Pretty Peacock Paper
• Using a pencil, make tick marks at 2 ¼ and 5 ¾” on each of the long edges.
• Score diagonally from the upper 2 ¼” mark, through the center, to the lower 5 ¾” tick mark.
• Score from lower 2 ¼” mark, through the center, to the upper 5 ¾” tick mark creating an X.
Marking the mechanism to attach it to the inside piece of CS.
• Place the inside piece of CS face down.
• Overlay the flattened mechanism piece.
• On the left-hand side, trace a line where the two pieces meet from the center score line down to the bottom of the inside piece.
• On the right-hand side, the mark will be from the score line up to the top of the inside piece.
Adding the glue
• The marks you made will help form the box where glue will be added. You will glue from the marks to the vertical score line; from the horizontal score line to the edge of the paper. These are the only places you will glue the two pieces together. (See the photo for clarification.)
• The mechanism piece will have the center fold line forming a valley and the cross folds are both mountains.
• Make sure both pieces are flat when they are attached together.
Folding the mechanism:
• Fold the center piece and the mechanism so that it resembles the photo.
• Ensure the top of the artwork is on the left-hand side.
Adding the mechanism to the card base
• Add tear & tape or glue (snail isn’t stong enough) to the bottom triangle and center it to the inside of the card base.
• Add tear & tape or glue to the top triangle and close the card.
Using colored pencils, markers, blending pens, gems, etc. color and embellish the card as desired. This is always the most fun part of the card making process! Have fun creating!
