T his is a cute standing card that will fold down and fit into a standard card envelope (one that will hold a 5 ½” x 4 ¼” card). You can add as many or as few inserts onto the cube sides as you desire. The supplies below are for the card as shown above. You could also attach stickers or embellishments.
Project Recipe
Cutting Directions:
Green Cardstock
Start with a piece of cardstock 8 1/2" x 11". Cut 3” off the 11” edge to end up with one piece 8 1/2" x 8". With the 8 1/2" edge along the top, score the paper at 2”, 4”, 6”, 8” . This will give four 2” sections and one ½” section.
Turn the paper so that the 8" edge is along the top and cut the paper at 2" and 4". This will leave you with two pieces that are 2" x 8 1/2" and one piece that is 4” x 8 ½”
Fold and burnish the three green pieces along the score lines to create two small cubes and one tall cube. Do not assemble yet.
Using the 3” scrap piece (leftover from the first step) cut 4 pieces 1 ½” x ¾” . Fold these strips in half. These pieces will be used to hold the sentiments on the front of the cubes.
Die cut two circles, apx 1 1/2" in diamter, to use as backing for your sentiments.
Red Cardstock:
Cut 10 squares, 1 3/4" x 1 3/4"
Cut 2 rectangles, 1 3/4" x 3 3/4"
Designer Paper:
Cut 6 squares, 1 1/2" x 1 1/2".
Scrap Whisper White Cardstock to stamp and die cut the sentiments. 2 circles apx. 1 3/8" (scallop or regular circle).
Assembly:
Adhere six of the small the designer paper squares to six of the red squares.
Adhere the small tabs that hold the sentiments to the tall cube section (note that fold that these are placed on is the one farthest from the ½” flap). See close up detail and also the screenshot below showing placement of the tabs.
Adhere the rest of the red squares and red squares with the designer paper.
The squares with the designer paper will be on the two inside square sections.
And then, on the opposite side of the cardstock, the red squares (without designer paper) will be on the two outside square sections.
On the picture, the top strip shows the top side of the cardstock, and the bottom strip shows the bottom (or opposite) side of the cardstock.
The strip of tape to close the cube, will be on the 1/2" folded section on the same side as the red squares only (the bottom section in the picture).
If this is too confusing, you can just add the squares after assembling the cube.
For the taller cube section, the two red squares with designer paper go on the two front right rectangles, while the two longer rectangles with just the red paper go on the left two rectangles, but on the back side of the cardstock.
Assemble the two small cubes and one tall cube, putting tape or glue on the small ½ flap. See image for placement of tape.
Fold the cube in half and lay the edges flat when attaching the two edges together. This will ensure that it will fold flat for mailing.
Note:
On the tall cube, the ½” flap will be attached on the inside
On the small cubes, the ½” flap will be attached on the outside
Attach the smaller cubes to the larger cube (as shown in the picture)
The ½” flap on the tall cube will be to the inside right corner
The ½” flap on the small cubes will be to the back, where they attach to the large cube
Make sure to align the small cube to the bottom and left and right sides of the edges of the taller cube and then tape or glue the back of the small cubes to the front of the large cube.
Attach the sentiment backs to the small flaps on the front edge of the card. This will allow the sentiment to pop out and allow the card to fold closed.
