F un, interactive card using Stampin' Up! supplies that lets meerkats pull up out of holes when a tab is pulled.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock and Window Sheets pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Call Me Clover Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Soft Suede Cardstock
- 3-3/4" x 5" from Whisper White Cardstock
- 1" x 5-1/4" from Soft Suede Cardstock
- 2-1/2" square from Whisper White Cardstock
- 1-1/2" x 3-1/4" from Call Me Clover Cardstock
- 1/4" x 3" from Window Sheets
Lightly spritz the Soft Suede strip with water and insert into the Hammered Metal 3D Embossing Folder. Place the folder with the paper inside on your die cutting and embossing tool and run through the machine. Set aside to dry.
Adhere the large Soft Suede rectangle to the front of the Call Me Clover card.
Mount the cactus image from the The Gang's All Meer Set on Block B. Ink it up with the Memento Pad. Stamp it on the large white rectangle so the top of the cactus is about 1-1/8" from the top and the right side is about 1-3/8' from the right side. Re-ink the stamp and stamp it again just to the right and slightly below the first cactus. Re-ink the stamp and stamp it again just to the left and slightly below the first cactus.
Mount the "Happy Birthday to a Stand-Up Friend" sentiment from the The Gang's All Meer Set on Block B. Ink it up with the Call Me Clover Ink Pad and stamp it in the upper left corner of the large, stamped white rectangle.
Lay the large stamped white rectangle on top of some Grid Paper to protect your work surface from ink.
Use the fine point of the Light Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends Marker to draw a thin line that is 3/4" long and is 1-1/8" from the bottom of the large rectangle. The right end of the line should be about 1-7/8" from the right edge of the large rectangle.
Use the fine point of the Light Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends Marker to draw another thin line that is 3/4" long and is 1" from the bottom edge of the large rectangle. The left end of this line should be about 1/4" from the right edge of the previously drawn line and the right end of the line should be just under 1" from the right edge of the large rectangle.
Place the large, stamped white rectangle on top of the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Use the Exacto knife to cut a slit along the lines you drew with the Stampin' Blends Marker.
Mount the single, standing meerkat image from the The Gang's All Meer Set on Block C so it is on the right side of the block when the block is rubber side up. Mount the meerkat popping up from a hole image from the The Gang's All Meer Set on the same Block C so it is on the left side of the block when the block is rubber side up and the dirt around the meerkat is even with the top of the feet of the standing meerkat.
Ink up the meerkat stamps on Block C with the Memento Pad. Stamp them on the small white square so the bottoms of the images are about 1/4" from the bottom of the square.
Use Paper Snips to cut out the meerkats along the top, left, and right sides and between the two meerkats down to the level of the dirt around the one peeking his head out of the hole. Leave the bottoms of the meerkats uncut so they are still one piece. There should be about 1/8" to 1/4" of cardstock under the meerkats.
WITHOUT ADHERING, carefully slide the heads of the meerkats through the slits you cut in the large white rectangle from the back side to make sure the slits are properly placed. If needed, extend the length of the slits a little more using the Exacto knife with the cardstock on top of the Stampin' Pierce Mat.
After removing the meerkats from the slits, place the large, stamped, cut white rectangle on the work paper (Grid Paper works great) at your work space.to protect the work surface. The Stampin' Blends Markers will bleed through the cardstock so you need to protect your work surface. Start coloring with the Stampin' Blends Markers. The markers have a brush tip for coloring in larger areas and a fine tip for coloring in smaller areas. Work on one area at a time so the inks will be wet and will blend easier.
Use the Dark and Light Call Me Clover Markers to color in the bases of the cacti.
Use the Dark and Light Mango Melody Markers to color in the flowers on the cacti.
Use the Dark and Light Crumb Cake Markers to color in the ground. Draw in any empty spaces left by the stamped images as needed. Color to about 3/4" from the bottom of the rectangle. Make sure you blend the lines you previously drew around the slits you've now cut.
Use the Color Lifter Marker to remove any excess color as needed.
Place the cut out meerkats on the work paper at your work space. Start coloring with the Stampin' Blends Markers.
Use the Dark and Light Soft Suede Markers to color in the meerkats.
Use a small piece of Tear & Tape Adhesive to adhere the thin strip of Window Sheets to the base of the meerkats so it runs between them. Do NOT remove the protective coating from the Tear & Tape.
Unlock the Circle Tab Punch. Slide the small piece of Call Me Clover Cardstock into the punch. Punch.
Fold the circle tab punch out in half.
Mount the lizard image from the The Gang's All Meer Set on Block A. Ink it up with the Memento Pad. Stamp it on the top of the folded circle tab punch out on one side.
Adhere the top of the Window Sheet strip to the inside of the folded circle tab punch out using Tear & Tape Adhesive. Make sure that the lizard is facing forward.
Unlock the 1" Circle Punch. Holding the punch upside down so you can see the punching area, slide the top of the stamped and colored large white rectangle into the punch about 3/4" of the way into the punch. Make sure the punch is lined up so it is centered between the two slits you cut into the cardstock. Punch.
Adhere the dry embossed strip of Soft Suede Cardstock to the bottom of the stamped, colored, cut, and punched white rectangle. Trim off any excess cardstock on the edges with Paper Snips if needed. You might want to use Tear & Tape Adhesive to get the best adhesion.
WITHOUT ADHERING, carefully slide the heads of the meerkats through the slits you cut in the large, stamped, colored, and punched white rectangle from the back side.
On the back side of the large white rectangle with the meerkats inserted, put a bunch of Stampin' Dimensionals. Make sure they will NOT interfere with the pull tab, Window Sheets strip, and meerkats moving up and down. Also put a couple of Mini Stampin' Dimensionals along the bottom under the base of the meerkats. Again, make sure they do not interfere with the meerkats being able to slide up and down.
Remove the protective backings from the Dimensionals and adhere the white rectangle with meerkats inserted to the front of the card in the center of the large Soft Suede rectangle.
Cut a 3" piece of Call Me Clover 1/8" Grosgrain Ribbon.
Tie a half knot in the center of the ribbon. Trim the ends.
Use a Mini Glue Dot (squish the edges in if needed) to adhere the ribbon knot to the front of the card just below the sentiment so it is centered side to side.
Pull up on the tab to make the meerkats pop up from their holes.
