P atriotic birthday cards using Stampin' Blends and alcohol on vellum technique and Stampin' Up! products.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock and vellum pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Real Red Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Night Of Navy Cardstock
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Vellum Cardstock
- 2" x 4-1/4" from Night Of Navy Cardstock
- 2-1/4" x 3-1/2" from Real Red Cardstock
Place the piece of Vellum Cardstock on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface.
Scribble some random blobs of color all over the vellum square using the Night Of Navy Stampin' Blends, the Real Red Stampin' Blends, and the Dark Pool Party Stampin' Blends. Let the colors overlap a bit and let them go off the edges of the vellum. Cover the entire piece of vellum.
Place the colored vellum piece on some paper towels to protect your work surface.
If you prefer the more dotted vellum look, then put some rubbing alcohol in a small container.
Dip the brush tip of the fine or medium tip Water Painter into the alcohol to get some alcohol on it. Touch the tip of the Water Painter randomly all over the colored vellum piece getting more alcohol on the brush tip as needed or hold the brush tip horizontally over the colored vellum piece and flick it sharply with your finger to let alcohol splatter off and onto the colored vellum piece. Let the colors blend together. Add more alcohol by touching or splattering as needed. Set the vellum aside to allow it to dry.
Tip: Thoroughly clean the brush tips of your Water Painters when you are done by running them under running water and/or squeezing water through them from the barrel of the brush. Remember the Water Painters unscrew in the opposite direction of what you'd expect.
If you prefer the more striped vellum look, then put some rubbing alcohol in a Stampin' Spritzer.
Spritz the alcohol all over the vellum and let the colors blend together. Add more alcohol by spritzing as needed. Set the vellum aside to allow it to dry.
Squeeze the Wink Of Stella Glitter Brush to get lots of ink on the brush tip. Hold the brush tip horizontally over the vellum rectangle and tap the brush sharply to make dots of glittery ink splatter onto the vellum. Repeat until you have the coverage you want. Set the vellum aside to allow it to dry.
Tip: The closer you hold the brush to the vellum, the larger the splatters will be.
Pick out the grouping of stars and swirls die from the Stitched Stars Dies. Put it on top of the smaller Night Of Navy rectangle on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Run through the machine. Use the Take Your Pick Die Brush Tip and paper-piercing tool on the Take Your Pick to remove the pieces. Save the grouping of stars and swirls cut out and the small stars that are cut out as well.
Mount the "Have A Stellar Birthday" or "You're Out Of This World" sentiment from the Stellar Birthday Set on Block B. Ink it up with the Night Of Navy Ink Pad. Stamp it on one end of the horizontal Real Red strip in the center. Leave room to punch it out.
Unlock the Tailored Tag Punch. Holding the punch upside down so you can see the punching area, slide the stamped sentiment into the punch and get it centered in the punching area. Punch.
If the Stampin' Blends/alcohol vellum piece splattered with Wink Of Stella is dry, adhere it to the top of the larger Night Of Navy rectangle. Then, adhere the pieces to the front of the Real Red card.
Use Paper Snips Scissors to carefully cut the grouping of stars and swirls cut out apart in the center.
Lay the cut pieces of the stars and swirls cut out on top of the front of the card near the bottom edge so the swirls are about 1/4" from the left and right edges.
Put adhesive all over the back of the sentiment label punch out. adhere the sentiment label punch out to the card front so it covers the space between the cut stars and swirls pieces and overlaps the edges to hold them in place.
Use a cut down piece of Mini Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere one of the larger star cut outs to the upper left corner of the card.
Use Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Fine-Tip Glue Pen to adhere two smaller star cut outs to the upper left corner making a rough triangle of stars.
Use the mini spatula on the Take Your Pick to carefully peel up 5 rhinestones from a sheet of Red Rhinestone Basic Jewels making sure that you get the adhesive backings as well. Adhere one to the center of the larger star cut out. Adhere two to the centers of the left and right ends of the sentiment label punch out. Adhere the remaining two to the edges of the swirls as shown to help hold the swirls down.
