Watercolour Silhouette--Block Smoosh Technique |
|
T his background is achieved with a really cool smoosh technique and an acrylic block!
Cut a piece of Shimmery White cardstock 5" x 3-1/2". You will need an acrylic block slightly larger than this piece (preferably block F, but E may also work). If you don't have a large block, use a clean silicone sheet, a window sheet, or a piece of waxed paper about 1/2" larger (both length and width) than the Shimmery White piece. Use some waxed paper, foil, or a large craft sheet to protect your work surface from water. Starting at the bottom, colour the block with Stampin' Write Markers--I used Mango Melody, Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo, and Gorgeous Grape, but similar colours would work. (If you don't have Stampin' Write Markers, you can squeeze ink pads to get ink on the lid (or use drops of ink refill) and use a Water Painter to apply colour to the block.) I scribbled over the block, using the two lighter colours alternately in "chunks", and used the darker colours as I coloured closer to the top of the piece. You need to colour as much of the block as needed, fill in all "holes", and ensure that the colour is slightly larger than the piece of cardstock. From a height of about 6", spritz the block 3 or 4 times, until you see the colours blend a little. Carefully lift the block, turn it over, and press firmly onto the Shimmery White piece, ensuring the whole piece is covered. Set it aside to dry, or dry with a heat tool.
Cut out the bullrushes or flowers silhouette from a piece of Basic Black cardstock. Once the watercolour piece is dry, adhere the silhouette to the background piece, trimming the excess. Cut a frame from black cardstock, using the first and third largest of the Stitched Rectangle dies. Add foam strips all around the back of the frame, and colour the inside and outside edges of the foam with a black Sharpie marker (so the foam isn't as visible), then attach the frame to the watercolour piece.
Adhere the card front to a 5-5/16" x 3-15/16" piece of Crushed Curry cardstock. Layer on a 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" Soft Suede card base, scored at 4-1/4".
Stamp the sentiment from Itty Bitty Greetings on Purple Posy cardstock with Memento Black ink, cut out with the smallest of the Stitched So Sweetly dies, and add to the card with Dimensionals. Add three clear Elegant Faceted Gems.
