Toile Christmas Mail Box |
F un Christmas gift box shaped like a mail box with a moveable flag and drawer that slides in and out using Stampin' Up! products.
Cut cardstock and designer paper pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- 5" x 12" from Garden Green Cardstock
- 4-3/4" x 8" of one of the green toile designs from the Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper, cut so the design is vertical on the horizontal rectangle
- 6-1/8" x 11" from Garden Green Cardstock
- 3" x 5-1/2" from Garden Green Cardstock
- 3-1/4" x 4" from Very Vanilla Cardstock
- 1-1/2" x 3-3/4" from Crumb Cake Cardstock
- 1-1/4" x 3-1/2" from Very Vanilla Cardstock
- 1-3/4" x 3-1/4" of red stripes design from Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper, cut so the stripes are vertical on the horizontal rectangle
- 1/2" x 2-1/4" from Real Red Cardstock
- 2 pieces each 1" x 2-1/2" from Real Red Cardstock
Put the 5" x 12" Garden Green Cardstock on the Paper Trimmer so the 12" edge is against the top of the cutting area. Score at 1/2" and 8-3/4".
Fold on both score lines using the Bone Folder. Lightly rub the large portion of the scored Garden Green rectangle across the edge of the table to help it bend a little.
Adhere the large piece of toile design Toile Tidings Designer Paper to the large, slightly curved area of the Garden Green rectangle using Tear & Tape Adhesive along the edges of the back side of the designer paper and SNAIL in the center of the back side of the designer paper.
Unlock the Banner Triple Punch. Slide one short edge of one of the 1" x 2-1/2" strips of Real Red into the punch as far as it will go. Punch. Slide the other strip of Real Red in as far as it will go. Punch.
Use Paper Snips or a Paper Trimmer to cut the punched banners down so they are both about 1-1/4" long.
Adhere the 1/2" x 2-1/4" strip of Real Red in between the two red banners on the flat side of the banners to make a flag.
Place the large Garden Green rectangle with the designer paper attached on top of the Stampin' Pierce Mat so the designs on the designer paper are right side up.
WITHOUT ADHERING, lay the Real Red flag on the Garden Green rectangle so the bottom of the flag pole is about 1" from the long bottom edge of the Garden Green rectangle and the left side of the bottom of the flag pole is about 2" from the left edge of the designer paper.
Poke a hole through all the layers at the bottom of the flag pole using the paper-piercing tool on the Take Your Pick.
Pick out a Metallic Brad and insert the prongs through the holes. Fold the prongs flat on the underside of the green rectangle. The flag should swivel.
Put a strip of Tear & Tape Adhesive along the top of the 1/2" wide tab on the end of the Garden Green rectangle.
Adhere the end of the Garden Green rectangle to the 1/2" wide flap making a dome shaped rectangle.
Pick out the branch with leaves and berries die from the Christmas Cardinal Dies. Put it on top of the Crumb Cake rectangle on a platform on your cutting and embossing tool. Run through the tool.
Use Paper Snips to cut off the leaves and berries portions leaving a bare branch.
Use Fine-Tip Glue Pen or Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the branch cut out to the bottom right side of the mail box dome.
Mount the cardinal image from the Toile Christmas Set on Block E. Ink it up with the Memento Pad. Stamp it in the center of the 3-1/4" x 4" Very Vanilla rectangle.
Pick out the cardinal die from the Christmas Cardinal Dies. Put it on top of the stamped cardinal on a platform on your cutting and embossing tool. Run through the tool.
Put the cardinal cut out on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface. You need to make sure that you protect your work surface with paper as the Stampin' Blends Markers do bleed through.
Start coloring the cardinal with the Stampin' Blends Markers. The markers have a brush tip for coloring in larger areas and a fine tip for coloring in smaller areas. Use the dark colors first and then the light colors to blend the colors and color in the spaces. Work on one area at a time so the inks will be wet and will blend easier.
Use the Light and Dark Crumb Cake Markers to color in the bird's beak.
Use the Dark and Light Cherry Cobbler Markers to add dark highlights on the dark areas of the bird's feathers.
Use the Dark and Light Real Red Markers to color in the rest of the bird and blend the colors.
If desired, turn the cardinal over use the Stampin' Blends in the same areas as the front to color in the top of the bird's head. Then, use the Basic Black Marker to hand draw in some of the bird's mask, beak, and top knot feathers on the back side. This just gives some color and definition to the back of the bird's head when viewed from the other side of the box. You can skip this step if you wish.
Use pieces of Tear & Tape Adhesive on the back of the colored bird cut out from his neck down to adhere the bird to the right side of the mail box dome so it looks like he is perched on the branch cut out you've already adhered there. The end of his tail should be even with the bottom of the mail box dome and his head should be free and standing straight up (instead of stuck to the side of the curved mail box dome).
Cut a 3-1/2" piece of Garden Green 3/8" Double-Stitched Ribbon. Tie it in a half knot in the center. Trim the ends. Use a Mini Glue Dot to adhere it to the end of the branch on the right side of the mail box dome.
Put the 6-1/8" x 11" Garden Green Cardstock on the Paper Trimmer so the 6-1/8" edge is against the top of the cutting area. Score at 1-1/2" on both sides.
Put the 6-1/8" x 11" Garden Green Cardstock on the Paper Trimmer so the 11" edge is against the top of the cutting area. Score at 3-1/4" on both sides.
Fold on all score lines using the Bone Folder. Use Paper Snips to cut down along the 1-1/2" score lines until you hit the 3-1/4" score lines on both sides. Cut off about half of the long tabs on either side.
Pick out the smooth circle die that cuts out a 2-15/16" circle from the Layering Circles Dies. Place the die on top of one of the 3-1/4" tabs on the ends of the rectangle so the top of the die just touches the top of the tab on a platform on your cutting and embossing tool. Run through the tool ONLY UNTIL YOU START TO FEEL TENSION. THEN, STOP! Leave the circle die out.
Remove the circle die from the end of the tab. You should have cut a partial circle along the top of the tab. Use Paper Snips to cut down the rest of the sides of the tab at a slight angle.
Put the smooth circle die on top of the other 3-1/4" tab on the other end of the rectangle so the top of the die just touches the top of the tab on a platform on your cutting and embossing tool.
Use pieces of Tear & Tape Adhesive on the small flaps on the ends to adhere the rectangle together so it makes an open drawer with low sides on the long edges and curved topped tabs on the short ends.
Put the smooth circle die on top of short end of the 3" x 5-1/2" Garden Green rectangle so the top of the die just touches the short edge of the rectangle on a platform on your cutting and embossing tool. Run through the tool ONLY UNTIL YOU START TO FEEL TENSION. THEN, STOP!
Remove the circle die from the end of the rectangle. You should have cut a partial circle along one short edge of the rectangle. Use Paper Snips to cut down the rest of the sides at a slight angle.
Use Tear & Tape Adhesive to adhere the rounded end rectangle to the bottom of the drawer so the rounded end sticks out to the front of the drawer a bit.
Mount the "Christmas Wishes" banner image on Block H. Ink it up with the Real Red Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the1-1/4" x 3-1/2" piece of Very Vanilla.
Pick out the matching banner die from the Christmas Cardinal Dies. Put it on top of the stamped sentiment banner on a platform on your cutting and embossing tool so the sentiment banner is centered. Run through the tool.
Pick out the double banners die from the Christmas Cardinal Dies. Put it on top of the striped Toile Tidings Designer Paper rectangle on a platform on your cutting and embossing tool. Run through the tool.
Adhere the sentiment banner cut out to the center of the designer paper double banners cut out using Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.
Adhere the matted banner cut outs to the front of the drawer.
Slide the drawer into the mail box dome.
