Sailing Home Watercolour Background Card |
|
S ailing Home is one of my favourite stamp sets to use when making masculine cards. I used a background technique I call the “Smooshed Saran Wrap” method, that I learned from Amanda Fowler, a demonstrator in the UK.
|
Cut a Bermuda Bay card base 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" (score at 4-1/4"), a piece of Shimmery White Cardstock 3-3/4" x 5", and a Night of Navy Cardstock 3-7/8" x 5-1/8".
Tear off a piece of Saran Wrap (about 8"). Scrunch it up until it is slightly smaller than the piece of Shimmery White Cardstock. Spray the Saran Wrap several times with water. Spray the back of the Shimmery White paper a couple of times (to prevent curling), then the front a fair bit. Put about 6-8 drops of Balmy Blue ink, 4-5 of each of Bermuda Bay ink and Pacific Point ink onto the SARAN WRAP, then smoosh the wrap a little to spread the colour. Put 2-3 drops of the White Shimmer Paint near the bottom of the wrap (to look like waves). Spritz the Shimmery White paper again, and put it front-side down over the scrunched Saran Wrap. Holding both (saran and cardstock), turn over so that the Saran Wrap is on top. Smoosh the wrap a bit, being sure to keep the creases, and move the ink to get the coverage you want. It's best to leave this overnight to dry, but if you absolutely can't wait, let it dry for at least an hour or two, remove the wrap, and dry with a heat tool. I learned this method from Amanda Fowler. Be sure to check out her video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSZGOp5A3FQ&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR34tcHS3HVuxnDXic5A2BNuViD_YLce5L5vsOw503uikuvQvcuoXCtRzzE
Ink the lighthouse stamp with Versamark, stamp over dried watercolour background, add white embossing powder, and set with a heat tool.
Adhere the Shimmery White cardstock to the Night of Navy cardstock. Cut a 5" piece of White Flax Ribbon, fold the ends over the edge of the card, and attach the ends to the back of the navy cardstock with glue dots or tape. Adhere to the Bermuda Bay card base. Loop a 3" piece of white baker's twine through the loop of the anchor, trim, and adhere to the card with a glue dot. Add a large rhinestone to the lighthouse. Stamp sentiment with Night of Navy ink onto Coastal Cabana scrap; diecut the sentiment as well as a matching diecut from a Whisper White scrap. Cut the white diecut horizontally, separate pieces by 1/8", and adhere to the back of the Coastal Cabana diecut. Add to card with Dimensionals.
