In the comments I stated I learned the background technique from a YouTube video by Gail O'Neill and listed the link to that there.
Read on to see how I used this technique.
Cut Whisper White Thick card stock 8.5 x 5.5, score at 4.25 and fold to create a top fold A2 card.
Cut 2 pieces of Tranquil Tide card stock 5.25 x 4. Using Snail attach one to the inside of the card and one to the front.
Cut 2 pieces of Whisper White regular 3.75 x 5
Attach one to the inside of the card with Snail
The second piece is the art piece for the card.
Begin by stamping the double tree image with Tranquil Tide ink to create the "forest" Stamp some full strength and some stamped off for a lighter look to create depth.
For the background use the clear block "I"
The sky uses Night of Navy ink pad.
Tap the ink pad onto one end of the clear block
Place some Glycerine in the middle
Using a Sponge mix the ink and the glycerine together. You want the color to be a lighter color so bring the ink into the silicone a little at a time and test your sponge on your work surface before starting to put it on your card.
Once you've got the sponge ready begin off the edge of the card and in circular motion begin coloring in the sky. You will rub right over the tops of the trees so don't rub too much just enough to get the look you want. To get the blue down in and around the trees I dabbed rather than swirled.
Clean off the clear block with a baby wipe or by running it under water.
Now, stamp some craft white ink onto one end of the block, add a 1/4" to 3/8" drop of Frost White Shimmer paint and mix them together with a Stampin' Sponge.
Add a drop of Glycerine to the center of the block and begin mixing it together with the white craft and shimmer paint. Using the same swirling technique add the white to the card below the trees to create a snowy look.
It will be a bit hard to see at first, you may need to pick up the art piece and hold it to check coverage. It will have a nice "shimmer" to it. This is my own idea, not from the video and it worked beautifully. It does take a while to dry so set it aside for a few minutes. If you are impatient you can use your heat tool to speed things up.
You can see shading on the white snow background. It makes it look like there are snow drifts and shadows.
Be sure the white ink is dry before you begin.
To accomplish this tear a piece of card stock as you see in the photo
With a Stampin' Sponge and Smokey Slate ink pad lay the torn piece down and ink close to the edge. Move it around to get the look you want.
Use the snow dots stamp from Snow Is Glistening stamp set with Craft White ink to add the snow to the sky
Stamp the sentiment from Snow Is Glistening stamp set with Tranquil Tide ink
Once dry, {remember, craft ink takes a few minutes to dry. } attach art piece to the card front with Snail
