Rooster "Spinner" card |
T
his is a fun "action card" which uses pennies as weights to make it "spin" across a small "channel" cut into the card. It will delight little kids as well as all of the "young at heart" among us.
I deviated just a bit from some of the tutorials I consulted but mine turned out fine and a little easier for me.

stamp the rooster on Very Vanilla cardstock with Memento Tuxedo black ink, color as desired with watercolor pencils. My rooster is pretty plain but I have friends who raise chicks and some are very colorful so go simple or go crazy depending on your personal preferences.
Once your rooster is done to your liking, punch him out with the 2.5" circle punch and layer onto a 2 .75" Real Red scalloped circle cut from diecut. punch another same size circle from Crumb Cake cardstock to use as backing on inside of card.
This is a good time to stamp "just a note" in red ink onto a Very Vanilla scrap. punch out with the large oval punch, layer onto a red scrap punched with the scalloped oval punch. Adhere this at top right corner of the card once your card is complete.
Use the Crumb Cake ink to stamp both the front and the inside of card with the reeds and rushes/foliage.(see completed photo for details if needed), it's easier to do this part before punching out the "slider track, don't ask me how I know.
You can also stamp the inside sentiment now, stamp directly on the Crumb Cake layer with the darker Early Espresso ink.
Now cut the spinner track on the front panel only of the folded crumb cake. you can use a paper trimmer but if you are lucky enough to have the retired Word Window then use that, it works like a champ!
Mark your cardstock at 1 inch from the side on both edges for your guide, insert the front portion only of cardstock into the Word Window punch at one of the inch marks and push the punch up as far as it will go then punch, repeat at the mark on the other side making sure to push punch all the way up. I turn my punch with the bottom facing me so I can see where I'm punching.
Continue punching along the same line until you have a full open track from one mark to the other.
this is how your slider track should look when you are finished punching or cutting. If you are cutting the slider channel with your paper trimmer the channel should be approx 1/4th inch wide and a 3.25" long.
Take the 2 pennies and stick them together with 2 standard (not mini) dimensionals, think of "double stuffed"Oreo cookies with dimsionals for the filling.
Add an addional dimensional to the outside of each penny making sure that all dimensionals are centered in the middle of penny.
Wiggle the Oreo cookie pennies into the slider track so there's one penny on each side and it "rides the rail" smoothly.
Remove backing from top dimensional on outside of card and stick on the circle scalloped roosteronto it.
Now remove the dimensional cover on the penny hanging from the back(inside) of card and stick the crumb cake scalloped circle onto that dimensional.
Your penny sandwich should glide/roll along the track when tilted. If it seems to stick or get hung up when rolling try dusting it with your embossing buddy or a bit of baby powder.
Now you can attach the folded Crumb Cake card to the Red base panel . If you haven't already attached the red layered oval sentiment to the top right corner, do it now and your card is complete!
