Cut cardstock and watercolor paper pieces to the following sizes using a Stampin' Trimmer:
- card from Call Me Clover Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Pineapple Punch Cardstock
- 3-1/8" x 4-3/8" from Blueberry Bushel Cardstock
- 3" x 4-1/4" from Watercolor Paper
Place the letters and symbols "b," apostrophe, "d," "a," and "y" from the Lined Alphabet Photopolymer Stamp Set on Grid Paper to spell out "b'day." Use the lines on the Grid Paper to help you line up the letters and get them straight and evenly spaced. Then, press Block I firmly down onto the letters to mount them on the block.
Place the piece of Watercolor Paper on the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Using the mat will help you get a cleaner image when you stamp.
Tip: If you don't have Watercolor Paper, you can use with Whisper White, Whisper White Thick, Very Vanilla, or Very Vanilla Thick Cardstock instead. The Watercolor Paper just hold up better to the heat embossing and watercoloring without tearing, pilling, or warping.
Ink up the "b'day" sentiment using the VersaMark Pad. Then, WITHOUT STAMPING, ink up the sentiment with the Blueberry Bushel Ink Pad. Now, stamp the sentiment in the center of the Watercolor Paper rectangle.
Tip: By using the VersaMark Ink first and then inking again with Classic Ink, you can make any color of ink sticky enough to emboss with in that color.
Tip: If you have the 2018-2020 In Color Stampin' Emboss Powder, then ink up the sentiment with the VersaMark Pad ONLY and then proceed to the next step.
Lay the stamped Watercolor Paper on top of the Grid Paper in the center. Sprinkle on some Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder so it covers all of the stamped images. Tap off excess powder. Return the excess powder to the container to use again later.
Tip: If you have the 2018-2020 In Color Stampin' Emboss Powder, then sprinkle on some of the Blueberry Bushel powder instead of the Clear.
Heat the powder with the Heat Tool until it is completely melted (smooth and shiny).
If you haven't already done so, fill an Aqua Painter with water to the fill line.
Squeeze the lid of the Lovely Lipstick Ink Pad to get a pool of ink in the lid. Open the pad but leave the lid exposed. Squeeze some water from the Aqua Painter into the puddle of ink in the lid to get it really watery. Pick up the watery ink from the pad lid with the Aqua Painter and paint it inside the heat embossed letter "b." Put lots of the watery ink into the image. Don't worry if it goes outside of the lines a bit.
Use a drinking straw to blow the watery ink out of the letter in different directions. Hold the end of the straw very close to the image at a slight angle and blow hard.
Add more watery ink to the letter as needed until you can blow the watery ink out in several directions and have the color saturation you want inside the letter.
Scribble on Grid Paper to clean the tip of the Aqua Painter until no more color is coming off.
Repeat the step above for each symbol and letter of the sentiment using a different color of watery ink for each as outlined below. Remember to clean the Aqua Painter between each color of ink by scribbling on Grid Paper until no more color is coming off.
- Use Blueberry Bushel Ink in the apostrophe.
- Use Grapefruit Grove Ink in the "d."
- Use Pineapple Punch Ink in the "a."
- Use Call Me Clover Ink in the "y."
Set the Watercolor Paper aside to dry.
Mount the streamers image from the Birthday Backgrounds Set on Block D. Ink it up with the Call Me Clover Ink Pad and stamp it all around the edges of the Pineapple Punch rectangle. Remember to re-ink the stamp each time. Let some of the images go off the edges of the cardstock. You do NOT have to stamp the center of the rectangle as it will be covered by the matted main image. Just do about 1/2" on all sides.
Adhere the stamped Pineapple Punch rectangle to the front of the Call Me Clover card.
If the sentiment image is dry, proceed to the next step. You can speed up the drying by heating the UNDERSIDE of the Watercolor Paper with the Heat Tool.
Adhere the dry Watercolor Paper to the Blueberry Bushel rectangle.
Cut a 5-1/4" piece of either Blueberry Bushel, Call Me Clover, or Lovely Lipstick 1/8" Grosgrain Ribbon.
Lay the ribbon across the Watercolor Paper/cardstock layers so the ribbon is just below the tail of the "y." Flip the layers over and fold the ends of the ribbon over. Adhere the ends of the ribbon in place with pieces of Tear & Tape Adhesive.
Remove the protective backing from the Tear & Tape strips and add more SNAIL to the back of the cardstock. Adhere it to the front of the card so it is centered.
Cut two pieces of ribbon from the other two colors of 1/8" Grosgrain Ribbon each 3" long.
Slide one end of one ribbon under the ribbon on the card front and tie it in place using a half knot on the left side. Trim the ends. Repeat with the other piece of ribbon about 1/2" to the right of the first.
