Hello Ladybug Pastel Shutter Bug |
F un shutter card using pastels techniques and Stampin' Up! products.
Cut cardstock and designer paper pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Poppy Parade Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Basic Black Cardstock
- 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" from Basic Black Cardstock
- 2-1/2" x 8-1/4" of black dots on white background design from Zoo Crew 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper
- 2-1/2" x 7" of white scallop lines on black background design from Zoo Crew 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper
- 2-1/4" square from Poppy Parade Cardstock
- 2-1/2" square from Basic White Cardstock
- 2-1/4" square from Basic White Cardstock
- 1" x 2-1/2" from Basic White Cardstock
- 4 strips each 1/4" x 5" from Basic Black Cardstock
Pick out the stitched square die from the Stylish Shapes Dies that cuts out a square that is 1-15/16" square. Put it on top of the Poppy Parade square on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Run through the machine.
Adhere the square so it forms a diamond to the center of the vertical 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" black rectangle.
Put the black rectangle with the red diamond in the center on top of a Silicone Craft Sheet.
Use Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Fine-Tip Glue Pen to adhere one of the thin black strips to the black rectangle so it is butted up against the red square and is even with one corner of the square. The end of the strip will go off the edge of the black rectangle. Repeat with the other three black strips so they frame the square.
Use Paper Snips Scissors to cut off excess black strips around the edges.
Put the black rectangle back on the Silicone Craft Sheet.
Put some Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Fine-Tip Glue Pen in the lower left quadrant of the black rectangle. Adhere one edge of the white scallop lines on black Zoo Crew Designer Paper to the quadrant so it fills the quadrant. Use Paper Snips Scissors to cut off the excess designer paper.
Put some Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Fine-Tip Glue Pen in the upper right quadrant of the black rectangle. Adhere one edge of the remaining white scallop lines on black Zoo Crew Designer Paper to the quadrant so it fills the quadrant. Use Paper Snips Scissors to cut off the excess designer paper.
Put the strip of black dots on white background Zoo Crew Designer Paper on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface.
Rub a Blending Brush across the open Poppy Parade Ink Pad to get it inky. Rub the inky Blending Brush across the designer paper strip to turn it red. Get more ink on the Blending Brush as needed. .
Tip: I just clean my Blending Brushes when I'm done using them by running them under water until no more color is coming off. Then, I let them air dry. They may be stained, but they are clean enough to use with any color of ink in the future.
Put some Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Fine-Tip Glue Pen in the upper left quadrant of the black rectangle. Adhere one edge of the altered Zoo Crew Designer Paper to the quadrant so it fills the quadrant. Use Paper Snips Scissors to cut off the excess designer paper.
Put some Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Fine-Tip Glue Pen in the lower right quadrant of the black rectangle. Adhere one edge of the remaining altered Zoo Crew Designer Paper to the quadrant so it fills the quadrant. Use Paper Snips Scissors to cut off the excess designer paper.
Adhere the black rectangle with the shutter pattern adhered to it to the center of the 4" x 5-1/4" black rectangle and then to the front of the Poppy Parade card.
As you are ready to stamp using the Hello Ladybug Set, place the cardstock on the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Using the mat will help you get a cleaner image each time you stamp.
Mount the flying ladybug body image from the Hello Ladybug Set on Block C. Ink it up with the VersaMark Ink Pad. Stamp it on the left edge of the white square so the head is pointing down.
Pull the Daffodil Delight pastel stick from the Soft Pastels Assortment. Rub one end gently across the inky ladybug image. Tap or blow off excess pastel powder. Leave the pastel stick out.
Unlock the Ladybug Builder Punch. Holding the punch upside down so you can see the punching area, slide the pastel ladybug body into the punch and get it centered in the corresponding punching area. Punch. Save both pieces. Leave the punch unlocked.
Mount the open ladybug wings image from the Hello Ladybug Set on Block C. Ink it up with the VersaMark Ink Pad. Stamp it on the right edge of the previously punched white square so the tips of the wings are pointing to the left.
Pull the Poppy Parade pastel stick from the Soft Pastels Assortment. Rub one end gently across the inky ladybug wings image. Tap or blow off excess pastel powder. Return the stick to the box.
Holding the unlocked Ladybug Builder Punch upside down so you can see the punching area, slide the pastel ladybug open wings into the punch and get them centered in the corresponding punching area. Punch.
Use Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Fine-Tip Glue Pen to adhere the punched out wings to the punched out ladybug body.
Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the ladybug punch out to the center of the card at a slight angle as shown.
Mount the "hello" or "my friend" sentiment from the Hello Ladybug Set on Block A. Ink it up with the Poppy Parade Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the 2-1/4" white square.
Pick out the stitched square die from the Stylish Shapes Dies that cuts out a square that is 1-1/16" square. Put it on top of the stamped sentiment square on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine so it forms a diamond shape around the sentiment. Run through the machine.
Rub the Daffodil Delight pastel stick lightly along the edges of the square. Blow or tap off excess pastel powder. Leave the pastel stick out.
Adhere the sentiment diamond cut out to the lower right corner of the card as shown.
Rub the end of the Daffodil Delight pastel stick all over the remaining white rectangle turning it yellow. Blow or tap off excess pastel powder. Put the pastel stick back in the box.
Pick out the tiny and small solid, 6-petal flower dies from the Translucent Florals Dies. Put them on top of the yellow pastel rectangle on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Make sure the dies do NOT overlap, but leave room to cut out another small flower. Run through the machine. Use the paper-piercing tool on the Take Your Pick to remove the pieces if needed. Put the small flower die out back on the rest of the rectangle on the machine and run through the machine again.
Use Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Fine-Tip Glue Pen adhere the flower cut outs to the card front as shown.
Use the white Pearlized Enamel Effects Basics to add little dots to the centers of the flowers and to fill in the dots on the ladybug's wings. Set the card aside flat to dry.
