Butterfly Brilliance Joseph's Coat Butterfly Birthday |
P retty birthday card using the Joseph's Coat heat embossing technique and Stampin' Up! products.
Cut cardstock pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Pumpkin Pie Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Crushed Curry Cardstock
- 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" from Very Vanilla Cardstock
- 2-1/2" x 3" from Pumpkin Pie Cardstock
- 2" x 2-1/2" from Crushed Curry Cardstock
- 1-3/4" x 4" from Crushed Curry Cardstock
Place the vanilla rectangle on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface.
Rub a Blending Brush across the open Crushed Curry Ink Pad to get it inky. Lightly rub the inky Blending Brush randomly over the vanilla rectangle. Get more ink on the Blending Brush as needed.
Tip: I just clean my Blending Brushes when I'm done using them by running them under water until no more color is coming off. Then, I let them air dry. They may be stained, but they are clean enough to use with any color of ink in the future
Rub a different Blending Brush across the open Pumpkin Pie Ink Pad to get it inky. Lightly rub the inky Blending Brush on the vanilla rectangle filling in blank areas. Get more ink on the Blending Brush as needed.

Use the Crushed Curry Ink Pad and Blending Brush to add more Crushed Curry Ink and to blend the two colors together.
Rub an embossing buddy all over the blended rectangle. This will help dry the ink and prevent the embossing powder from sticking where you don't want it.
Tip: We no longer sell the embossing buddy, but you can make your own by putting cornstarch or baby powder into a sock and sewing it closed or using a rubber band to close it. Then, just rub the filled sock across your cardstock.
Mount the Butterfly Brilliance stamp on Block F. Leave the stamp rubber side up on your work surface and press the open VersaMark Pad all over it.
Leave the stamp inky rubber side up vertically on your work surface. Carefully place the blended vanilla rectangle vertically on top of the inky stamp. Place a piece of Grid Paper on top of the cardstock/inky rubber and rub firmly all over. Remove the Grid Paper and the inked up cardstock rectangle.
Lay the blended and VersaMark stamped cardstock rectangle on top of some Grid Paper in the center. Sprinkle on some clear powder from the Basics Stampin' Emboss Powders so it covers the entire rectangle. Tap off excess powder, trying not to smear the powder butterfly images. Return the excess powder to the container to use again later.
Heat the powder with the Heat Tool until it is completely melted (shiny and smooth).
Place the blended, stamped, and heat embossed cardstock rectangle back on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface.
Rub a different Blending Brush across the open Early Espresso Ink Pad to get it inky. Lightly rub the inky Blending Brush all over the blended, stamped, and heat embossed cardstock. Get more ink on the Blending Brush as needed.

Use a clean tissue or paper towel to rub all over the blended cardstock. This will remove excess ink puddled on top of the embossed butterfly images allowing the orange and yellow colors below to shine through.
Adhere the butterfly rectangle to the center of the large Crushed Curry rectangle.
Cut a 4-3/4" piece of the white 1/2" Faux Linen Ribbon from the Flowers For Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack.
Lay the ribbon on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface.
Use the brush tip of the Dark Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Blends to color the ribbon.
Mount the "happy birthday" sentiment from the Peaceful Moments Set on Block B. Ink it up with the Pumpkin Pie Ink Pad. Stamp it on one end of the horizontal Crushed Curry strip in the center. Leave room to punch it out.
Unlock the Label Me Fancy Punch. Holding the punch upside down so you can see the punching area, slide the stamped sentiment into the punch and get it centered in the punching area. Punch. Leave the punch unlocked. Keep all the pieces.
Slide the leftover end of the Crushed Curry strip into the unlocked punch so you will punch out the slit. Now, slide the leftover end of the Crushed Curry strip with the slit punched in it into the unlocked punch so you will punch out a rounded end. Get the slit centered in the rounded end fairly close to the edge. Punch. Leave the punch unlocked.
Lay the punched out bit on the BACK of the sentiment punch out lining up the rounded edges on one side. Use a pen or pencil to draw inside the slit area. Repeat with the other rounded edge.
Slide the marked sentiment punch out into the unlocked punch and get the marked area centered inside the slit punch. Punch. Repeat with the other end.
Thread the sentiment label punch out onto the colored ribbon and get it positioned on the ribbon on the right side.
Lay the ribbon with the sentiment label punch out on it across the bottom of the matted, vertical, heat-embossed and blended butterfly rectangle so the bottom of the sentiment label punch out is about 3/4/" from the bottom edge of the rectangle. Fold the ends of the ribbon over and secure the ribbon in place on the back with strips of Tear & Tape Adhesive.
Remove the protective backings from the Tear & Tape pieces and add Stampin' Seal to the back of the Crushed Curry rectangle. Adhere the rectangle to the front of the Pumpkin Pie card.
Pick out the large, connected, open butterflies die from the Brilliant Wings Dies. Put it on top of the small Pumpkin Pie rectangle on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine so the rectangle is centered under the medium sized butterfly on the left side of the die in the middle. Run through the machine.
Pick out the single, matching, detailed, medium sized butterfly die from the Brilliant Wings Dies. Place the die on top of the small Crushed Curry rectangle on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Run through the machine. Use the Take Your Pick Die Brush Tip and paper-piercing tool on the Take Your Pick to remove the pieces.
Put a thin line of Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Fine-Tip Glue Pen down the center of the body on the back of the Crushed Curry detailed butterfly cut out. Adhere it to the center of the solid Pumpkin Pie butterfly cut out. Lightly fold the wings upwards if you wish.
Use a Stampin' Dimensional to adhere the layered butterfly cut out to the front of the card at a slight angle so it overlaps the upper left corner of the sentiment label punch out and the ribbon a bit.
Use the mini spatula on the Take Your Pick to carefully peel up a large Bumblebee gem from a sheet of 2020-2022 In Color Square Gems making sure that you get the adhesive backing as well. Adhere it to the center of the detailed butterfly cut out so it forms a diamond.
Use the mini spatula on the Take Your Pick to carefully peel up 3 small Bumblebee gems from a sheet of 2020-2022 In Color Square Gems making sure that you get the adhesive backings as well. Adhere them randomly to the card front.
