Art Gallery Gilded Flower Pencils and Clothespins |
D ecorated pencils and clothespins using Stampin' Up! products.
Cut cardstock, designer paper, and cotton paper pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
For the pencils:
- 1" x 2-1/2" from Evening Evergreen Cardstock
- 4-1/2" square of Evening Evergreen cotton paper from Ever Eden 12" x 12" Cotton Paper
For clothespins:
- 2 pieces each 3/8" x 2-7/8" of tiny green splatters on white background design from Ever Eden 12" x 12" Specialty Designer Series Paper (or strip to fit on clothespin)
- 4-1/2" square of Soft Succulent cotton paper from Ever Eden 12" x 12" Cotton Paper
To make the pencil tag:
Pick out the smallest tag with scalloped top die from the Tailor Made Tags Dies. Put it on top of the Evening Evergreen strip on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Run through the machine.
As you are ready to stamp using the Art Gallery Set, place the cardstock on the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Using the mat will help you get a cleaner image each time you stamp.
Mount the short sentiment of choice from the Art Gallery Set on Block G. Ink it up with the VersaMark Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the tag cut out with the top of the tag on the left side.
Carefully rub the right end of the tag across the open VersaMark Pad to get it inky. Make sure not to smear the stamped sentiment.
Lay the stamped sentiment tag cut out on top of some Grid Paper in the center. Sprinkle on some gold powder from the Metallics Stampin' Emboss Powders so it covers the entire sentiment and the inky right end of the tag. Tap off excess powder. Return the excess powder to the container to use again later.
Heat the powder with the Heat Tool until it is completely melted (shiny and smooth).
Tip: Use a clothespin to hold the cardstock while using the Heat Tool to avoid burning your fingers.
Cut a 6" piece of the gold trim from the Simply Elegant Trim.
Fold the trim in half. Stick the folded end of the trim through the hole in the top of the tag and pull it out slightly. Feed the loose ends of the trim through the folded loop and pull tight.
Tie a knot in the loose ends of the trim about 1/4" from the top of the tag creating a loop.
Cut a 5" piece of the Evening Evergreen 3/8" Chevron Weave Ribbon.
Tie the ribbon around the top of the pencil using a half knot.
Slide one end of the ribbon through the loop in the trim at the top of the tag. Finish tying a knot in the ribbon.
Trim off excess ribbon and trim.
To make the clothespin:
Adhere the strips of designer paper to the flat, front and back of the clothespin using Tear & Tape Adhesive.
To make the crumpled, gilded flowers:
Pick out the scalloped circle dies from the Layering Circles Dies that cut out scalloped circles that are 1-3/16", 1-1/2", and 1-3/4" diameter. Put all three dies on top of the cotton paper square on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Make sure the dies do NOT overlap. Leave room to cut another 1-1/2" circle out of the cotton paper in the next step. Run through the machine.
Put the 1-1/2" scalloped circle die back on top of the rest of the cotton paper square on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Run through the machine.
On top of the Stampin' Pierce Mat, lay the 4 circle cut outs on top of each other so the shinier side of the cotton paper is up on all of the circles. They don't have to be evenly spaced.
Use the paper-piercing tool on the Take Your Pick to poke a hole through the center of the stacked circle cut outs.
Pick out a small white brad from the Round & Square Brads (shape doesn't really matter).
Insert the prongs of the brad through the hole. Flip the circles over and flatten out the prongs for now.
Use your fingers to crumple the cotton paper circles in towards the center. Then, smooth them back out a bit to make a flower
Unflatten the prongs on the back of the cotton paper flower so you can clamp them in the clothespin.
Lightly dab and brush the edges of the crumpled cotton paper flower across the open VersaMark Ink Pad while holding the clothespin clamped on the prongs of the brad.
Dip the crumpled cotton paper flower into the gold powder from the Metallics Stampin' Emboss Powders to get a little powder on the edges while holding the clothespin clamped on the prongs of the brad.
Heat the powder on the edges of the crumpled cotton paper using the Heat Tool until it is completely melted (shiny and smooth) while holding the clothespin clamped to the prongs of the brad.
Release the crumpled cotton paper flower from the clothespin and allow to cool.
To add the flower to the top of the pencil:
Use a strong pair of scissors that you don't care about dulling to cut some of the prongs off. Be careful, the pieces may fly everywhere. Now, flatten the remainder of the prongs of the brad back out on the back of the flower.
Use Mini Glue Dots and/or Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the flower to the top of the eraser.
To add the flower to the top of the clothespin:
Flatten the prongs of the brad back out on the back of the flower.
Put a strip of Tear & Tape Adhesive across the flattened out prongs lengthwise. Remove the backing from the Tear & Tape. Adhere the flower to the clothespin making sure the Tear & Tape and clothespin are aligned lengthwise.
