Animal Outing Circle of Giraffes |
F un birthday card using a Stamparatus technique and Stampin' Up! products.
Cut cardstock, designer paper, and Grid Paper pieces to the following sizes using a Stampin' Trimmer:
- card from Call Me Clover Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Pumpkin Pie Cardstock
- 2-1/2" x 5-1/4" of tiny white dots scattered over Call Me Clover background design from 2018-2020 In Color 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper
- 3" square from Crushed Curry Cardstock
- 2-7/8" square from Whisper White Cardstock
- scrap of Pumpkin Pie Cardstock at least 1-1/2" wide
- scrap of Crushed Curry Cardstock at least 1-1/2" wide
- 5" square from Whisper White Cardstock
- 7-1/4" square from Grid Paper
Place one long side of the Pumpkin Pie rectangle into the Polka Dot Basics Embossing Folder. Place the folder with the cardstock inside on top of a Cutting Pad on your Big Shot Platform at the lowest possible setting. Make sure that neither the cardstock or embossing folder hangs over the edge of the platform or it will catch on the sides of the Big Shot and damage your folder, cardstock, and/or Big Shot. Place another Cutting Pad on top of the folder and run through the Big Shot.
Place the other long side of the Pumpkin Pie rectangle into the Polka Dot Basics Embossing Folder.
Tip: By dry embossing only the edges, you leave the center smooth so the designer paper will adhere flatter in the next step.
Adhere the strip of 2018-2020 In Color Designer Series Paper down the center of the dry embossed Pumpkin Pie rectangle.
Adhere the Pumpkin Pie rectangle to the front of the Call Me Clover card.
Pick out the square framelit from the Layering Squares Framelits that cuts out a 2-7/8" square. Place the 5" square of white cardstock on the Cutting Pad on top of the Platform on the Big Shot. Place the square framelit on top so the framelit is centered. Place another Cutting Pad on top and run through the Big Shot. Keep the square framelit out to use it on the next step. Keep both pieces of cardstock.
Place the 5" square of cardstock with a square cut out of the center back on the Cutting Pad on top of the Platform on Big Shot. Place the square framelit on top so it is evenly angled (making a diamond) across the previously cut out square. Place another Cutting Pad on top and run through the Big Shot. Throw away the little triangles you cut out, but keep the 5" square with a large square 8-pointed star cut out of the center.
Carefully remove a magnet from the back of the Stamparatus and place it on your work surface. Place the Stamparatus in front of you with the open sides of the Stamparatus on the left and bottom. Place the foam mat on the base of the Stamparatus, if desired, making sure it is pushed into the upper right corner as far as possible. Place the 7-1/4" square of Grid Paper on top to protect the foam mat. Make sure it is pushed into the upper right corner as far as possible. Insert one of the plates into the hinges on the right side of the Stamparatus.
Tip: When using a Clear-Mount stamp the foam mat is not always needed. I like to use it though to make sure I get a good image.
Place the 5" square with the star shape cut out of the center on the Stamparatus base pushing it as far as possible into the upper right corner. Secure the 5" square in place using the magnet.
Position the giraffe stamp from the Animal Outing Set on the Stamparatus so the stamp is rubber side down and the head of the giraffe is centered just above the bottom center point of the star cut into the 5" square. Close the plate onto the stamp and press firmly to make sure it is stuck to the plate.
Place the 2-7/8" square you cut out earlier into the square space cut in the center of the 5" square on the Stamparatus base.
As you prepare to ink up the stamp on the Stamparatus plate each time, place the stamp case under the Stamparatus plate to give it some firmness as you ink up the stamp.
If you have a Stampin' Spot in the color you want to stamp with, then use it to ink up the stamp each time. This will help avoid getting ink on the plate where you don't want it.
If you do get ink on the plate, then wipe it off with a baby wipe, tissue, or paper towel before closing the plate to stamp to avoid getting excess ink on your project piece where you don't want it.
Ink up the stamp on the plate using the Pumpkin Pie Ink Pad. Close the plate onto the cardstock and press down firmly. Open the plate.
Carefully remove the 2-7/8" square and rotate it 90 degrees. Put it back into the square space cut in the center of the 5" square on the Stamparatus base. Re-ink the stamp on the plate with the Pumpkin Pie Ink Pad. Close the plate, press firmly, and open the plate. Continue rotating the square and placing it back in the template and stamping the giraffe image until the giraffe is stamped on all 4 sides.
Make sure the 2-7/8" square is NOT on the Stamparatus. Remove the giraffe stamp from the plate and re-position it on the Stamparatus so the stamp is rubber side down and the head of the giraffe is centered just above the bottom left point of the star cut into the 5" square. Close the plate onto the stamp and press firmly to make sure it is stuck to the plate.
Place the 2-7/8" square back into the square space cut in the center of the 5" square on the Stamparatus base.
Ink up the stamp on the plate using the Pumpkin Pie Ink Pad. Close the plate onto the cardstock and press down firmly. Open the plate. Remove the 2-7/8" square, rotate it 90 degrees, replace it in the template, re-ink the stamp, stamp it, and repeat until the giraffe is stamped in all 4 corners of the square. You should now have a circle of giraffe heads all around the square.
Tip: Save the square star template cut into the 5" cardstock square to use on future projects with the Stamparatus to make wreaths and circles of images.
Use the Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry Markers to color in the giraffes, alternating colors.
Adhere the stamped and colored white square to the Crushed Curry square. Then, adhere the matted squares to the front of the card so they are centered side to side and about 1" from the top.
Mount the "Happy Birthday" sentiment from the Itty Bitty Greetings Set on Block G. Use one of the Markers to make little marks on the Block at the beginning and ending of each word. Carefully ink up only the word "happy" by pressing it to the edge of the open Pumpkin Pie Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the Crushed Curry scrap. Clean the stamp using the Simply Shammy or Stampin' Mist and Stampin' Scrub, but leave it on the block.
If needed, use one of the Markers to make little marks on the Block at the beginning and ending of each word again. Carefully ink up only the word "birthday" by pressing it to the edge of the open Pumpkin Pie Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the Crushed Curry scrap so it is centered under the word "happy." Use the marks on the block to help you line things up.
Unlock the 1" Circle Punch. Holding the punch upside down so you can see the punching area, slide the stamped sentiment into the punch and get it centered in the punching area. Punch.
Unlock the 1-1/4" Circle Punch. Slide the scrap of Pumpkin Pie Cardstock into the punch. Punch.
Adhere the sentiment circle to the center of the Pumpkin Pie circle.
Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the matted circles to the center of the giraffe circle on the card front.
Pick out a three leaf trinket from the Leaves Trinkets. Press one side of the trinket into the VersaMark Pad to get it good and inky. Then, quickly press the same side into the open Call Me Clover Ink Pad to get it green.
Tip: If you have the new 2018-2020 In Color Stampin' Emboss Powder, you can just press the trinket into the VersaMark Pad only and proceed to the next step without using the Call Me Clover Ink Pad.
Lay the trinket inky side up on top of Grid Paper in the center. Sprinkle on some Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder so it covers all of the trinket. Carefully tap off excess powder. Return the excess powder to the container to use again later.
Tip: If you have the new 2018-2020 In Color Stampin' Emboss Powder, you can just sprinkle on some of the Call Me Clover Emboss Powder instead.
Heat the powder with the Heat Tool until it is completely melted (smooth and shiny).
Tip: Use a Paper-Piercing Tool or a wooden dowel to hold the trinket in place while you are using the Heat Tool on it.
Tip: To protect your work surface while using the Heat Tool, place the trinket on some sort of heat resistant surface like an aluminum pan or a stone coaster.
If you didn't get really good coverage of green, you can press the trinket back into the VersaMark Pad, then the Call Me Clover Pad, and then sprinkle on more Clear Embossing Powder before heating it again.
Use Mini Glue Dots to adhere the colored trinket to the front of the card so the stem is tucked up under the sentiment circles and the leaves are pointing down and to the left a bit.
Cut an 8" piece of Call Me Clover 1/8" Grosgrain Ribbon.
Tie a small bow in the center. Trim the ends.
Use a Mini Glue Dot to adhere the bow to the bottom left side of the sentiment circles over the top of the leaf trinket.
