P laying with Pastels is easy and creates beautiful backgrounds. This card utilizes the pastels to create the background paper for this fun card.
Project Recipe
Measurements of Materials
5 ½” x 8 ½” White Cardstock (CS) Scored at 4 ¼”
5” x 4” Ombre Specialty Paper
3 ¼” x 4 ½” White CS
3 x 4 ¼” White CS
Cut and Score all pieces.
You will need a med size piece of scrap paper, a sponge or dauber, and hairspray.
Coloring with Pastels
• Rub each of the pastels that you plan to use on scrap paper as if it were your pallet.
• Using a sponge or dauber, pick up the color from the scrap paper and begin coloring the cardstock.
• Rubbing the sponge on the scrap paper is all that is required to remove excess color; however, it does pay to apply the lightest colors first and the darkest last.
• I prefer to use hairspay (I prefer pump, but aerosol also works) to fix the colors in place; although there are specialized fixative products that you can get in arts and craft stores.
• Removing pastels if they stray outside your desired location can be done with a specialized Kneaded Rubber eraser that generally contains some amount of charcoal.
Assembling the Front of the card
• On the 3” x 4 ½” piece of CS, use the pastels to color as you desire.
• Use a light coat of hairspray to fix the pastels to the paper and let it dry.
• Stamp the Hot Air Balloon and sentiment onto your colored cardstock.
• Attach the colored cardstock to the white matt.
• Wrap the ribbon around the matted cardstock before attaching it to the card base.
Use your imagination to embellish as desired.
