C hristmas card using a variation of the black ice technique and Stampin' Up! products.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Old Olive Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Old Olive Cardstock
- 2-5/8" x 3-5/8" from Early Espresso Cardstock
- 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" of gold cardstock from Brushed Metallic 12" x 12" Cardstock, cut so the brushed lines are horizontal on the vertical rectangle
- 2-1/4" x 3-1/2" from Soft Suede Cardstock
- 1/2" x 4" from Old Olive Cardstock
Insert the large Old Olive rectangle into the Evergreen Forest 3D Embossing Folder so the trees will be embossed vertically onto the vertical rectangle. Use the line drawn on the front of the folder to help you line the cardstock up straight. Place the folder with the cardstock inside on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine and run through the machine.
Adhere the dry embossed Old Olive rectangle to the front of the Old Olive card.
Put a tiny dab of Stampin' Seal on the back of the piece of gold Brushed Metallic Cardstock. Stick the cardstock to some Grid Paper on your work surface.
Lightly drag the open Saddle Brown StazOn Ink Pad across the gold Brushed Metallic cardstock horizontally multiple times. Start off the cardstock on the left or right side and drag across until you go off the cardstock on the other side. The lines do not have to be straight. You do NOT want to cover the entire rectangle with ink, you just want some streaks. Try NOT to touch the surface of the gold Brushed Metallic cardstock if you can help it. Leave the cardstock in place on your Grid Paper.
As you are ready to stamp using the Merry Moose Photopolymer Set, place the cardstock on the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Using the mat will help you get a cleaner image each time you stamp.
Mount the large pine tree image from the Merry Moose Set on Block D. Ink it up with the Saddle Brown StazOn Ink Pad. Stamp it in the lower right corner of the streaky gold metallic cardstock so the bottom of the trunk goes off the bottom edge and the right side of the tree just goes off the right edge. Re-ink the stamp with the StazOn Ink and stamp it again just to the left of the first tree image and slightly higher. Don't worry if the images slide just a tiny bit as you stamp them on the slick surface.
Carefully lift the stamped and streaked gold metallic rectangle from the Grid Paper, trying NOT to touch the surface. Use the Heat Tool on the LOW setting to dry the ink a little bit so it doesn't smear in the next step.
Stick the stamped and streaked gold metallic cardstock back on your Grid Paper.
Lightly drag the open VersaMark Pad across the stamped and streaked gold metallic cardstock horizontally multiple times. Start off the cardstock on the left or right side and drag across until you go off the cardstock on the other side. The lines do not have to be straight. You do NOT want to cover the entire rectangle with ink, you just want some streaks. Try NOT to touch the surface of the gold metallic cardstock if you can help it.
Sprinkle some Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder all over the stamped and streaked gold metallic cardstock. Carefully remove the cardstock from the Grid Paper, trying NOT to touch the surface. Tap off excess powder. Return the excess powder to the container to use again later.
Heat the powder with the Heat Tool until it is completely melted (shiny and clear).
Tip: Lay the cardstock on a heat proof surface (I use a stone coaster) and hold the cardstock in place using the paper-piercing tip of the Take Your Pick tool.
Optional step: If desired use the fine tip of the Old Olive Dark Stampin' Blends to color over the tree images to make them a bit darker and give them a slight green tinge.
Adhere the stamped, streaked, heat embossed, and, if desired, colored, gold metallic cardstock to the center of the Early Espresso rectangle using strips of Tear & Tape Adhesive along the back edges.
Unlock the Lovely Labels Pick A Punch. Slide one short edge of the Old Olive strip into the right side of the punch (the side of the punch with the squared top) as far as it will go. Punch.
Mount the "Have a cozy Christmas!" or "Merry Christmoose" sentiment from the Merry Moose Set on Block G. Ink it up with the Early Espresso Ink Pad. Stamp it on the punched strip as close as possible to the punched edge with the punched edge on the left side.
Use a small strip of Tear & Tape Adhesive to adhere the stamped sentiment strip to the top right side of the matted gold metallic cardstock. Use Paper Snips to trim off excess cardstock on the right edge.
Adhere the matted gold metallic cardstock with sentiment strip attached to the front of the card so it is centered side to side and the top edge is about 7/8" from the top of the card.
Mount the outline moose image from the Merry Moose Set on Block D. Ink it up with the Early Espresso Ink Pad. Stamp it on one end of the Soft Suede strip leaving room to punch it out.
Unlock the Moose Punch. Hold it upside down so you can see the punching area. Slide the stamped moose image into the punch and get it centered in the punching area. Punch.
Use Stampin' Dimensionals and Mini Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the moose punch out to the front of the card so it overlaps the lower left corner of the matted gold metallic cardstock rectangle.
Cut a 4" piece of the Old Olive ribbon from the Ornate Garden Ribbon Combo Pack and a 4" piece of the Early Espresso 1/4" Faux Suede Trim.
Lay the ribbons on top of each other and then tie a half knot in the center of them. Trim the ends and fan them out a bit.
Use a Mini Glue Dot to adhere the ribbon knot to the front of the card so it covers the cut right edge of the sentiment strip.
