P retty thank you card using a fun technique for watercoloring with an embossing folder.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock pieces to the following sizes using a Stampin' Trimmer:
- card from Soft Sea Foam Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Mossy Meadow Cardstock
- 3-3/4" x 5" from Soft Sea Foam Cardstock
- 2" x 3" from Mossy Meadow Cardstock
- 2" x 3" from Soft Sea Foam Cardstock
Fill a spray bottle with water.
Tip: An old Stampin' Mist bottle works great.
Open the Lovely Floral Embossing Folder up so the side with the Sizzix and Stampin' Up! logos is facing down. Use the brush tips of the Markers as follows to color in the indented areas on the inside of the folder. Don't worry if you go outside of the indented areas a little.
- Use Pumpkin Pie Marker to color in the small flowers scattered all around, the center of the big central flower, and the rounded tips of the spiky flower on the left side.
- Use Flirty Flamingo Marker to color in the large central flower and the two smaller half flowers on the left side.
- Use Mossy Meadow Marker to color in all the leaves and stems.
Lightly spritz the inside of the colored embossing folder side and the larger rectangle of Soft Sea Foam cardstock. Insert the cardstock into the folder so it is evenly placed over the colored image.
Tip: Spraying the cardstock with water before dry embossing it helps to prevent little cracking lines around the edges of the dry embossed image. Spraying the inside of the folder will also moisten the inks so they will transfer to the cardstock better.
Place the folder with the card stock inside directly on your Big Shot Platform at the lowest possible setting. Place a Cutting Pad on top of the folder and run through the Big Shot. Set the cardstock aside for a few minutes to let it dry completely.
VERY IMPORTANT: You are using only ONE Cutting Pad. If you try to use two, the sandwich will be too thick and you could damage the Big Shot.
As you are ready to stamp using the Love What You Do Set, place the cardstock on the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Using the mat will help you get a cleaner image each time you stamp.
Mount the "thank you," "love what you do," or "I'm lucky to have a friend like you" sentiment on Block C. Ink it up with the Mango Melody Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the small Soft Sea Foam rectangle.
Pick out the oval framelit from the Layering Ovals Framelits that cuts out a 2-1/4" long oval. Place the stamped sentiment image on the Cutting Pad on top of the Magnetic Platform on the Big Shot. Place the oval framelit on top so it is centered over the sentiment. Place another Cutting Pad on top and run through the Big Shot.
Note: If you used the "I'm lucky to have a friend like you" sentiment, you may have to cut off some of the "f" and "d" in the word "friend."
Pick out the scalloped oval framelit from the Layering Ovals Framelits that cuts out a 2-7/16" long scalloped oval. Place the small Mossy Meadow rectangle on the Cutting Pad on top of the Platform on the Big Shot. Place the scalloped oval framelit on top. Place another Cutting Pad on top and run through the Big Shot.
Adhere the sentiment oval to the center of the scalloped Mossy Meadow oval.
If the dry embossed Soft Sea Foam rectangle is dry, proceed to the next step.
Tip: You can use a Heat Tool to speed up drying if you wish.
If any of your flowers or leaves got faded out when you ran the embossing folder through the Big Shot, you can add more color to them. Simply scribble the color marker you need onto a Clear Block. Then, use a Blender Pen to pick up some of the ink from the block and color in the area you need on the dry embossed image. Pick up more ink from the block as needed. Remember to stroke the Blender Pen in one direction only. If you go back and forth, then the card stock could start to pill and tear. Scribble on Grid Paper to clean the tip of the Blender Pen until no more color is coming off before using a different color.
Tip: Clean the block with a baby wipe to remove any excess ink left on the block after scribbling on it with the marker before scribbling with another color of marker and when you are finished.
Mount the grouping of small flowers image from the Love What You Do Set on Block A. Ink it up with the Soft Sea Foam Ink Pad and stamp it on the upper right and lower left corners. Remember to re-ink the stamp each time.
Adhere the dry embossed, stamped, and colored Soft Sea Foam rectangle to the large Mossy Meadow rectangle and then to the front of the Soft Sea Foam card.
Cut an 8" piece of the Very Vanilla/copper ribbon from the Tea Room Ribbon Combo Pack.
Fold the ribbon in half and use Tear & Tape Adhesive to adhere it to the back of the matted sentiment ovals so that a small loop will stick out on the left side of the ovals when facing up and the two loose ends will stick out on the right side when the ovals are right side up.
Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the matted ovals with ribbon attached to the front of the card in the lower right corner.
Trim the loose ends of the ribbon at sharp angles.
Use the brush tip of the Pumpkin Pie Light Stampin' Blends to color one of the large pearls on a sheet of Pearl Basic Jewels while the pearl is still stuck to the sheet.
Carefully peel up the colored pearl from the sheet of Pearl Basic Jewels making sure that you get the adhesive backing as well. Adhere it to the center of the large flower in the center of the dry embossed image.
