T his gift bag is easy to whip up when you're in a jam! Using your stash of Designer Series Paper you can customize it for any occasion or holiday!
What you'll need:
Card Stock: (2) 8 1/2" x 11" sheets
Patterned Paper: 5 3/8" x 8 1/8"
Ribbon: (2) 14" pieces
Tear and Tape
Place short side (8 1/2") at the top of the scoring board. Score at 1 1/2" and 7". (You will then have a 1 1/2" panel down each long side.)
Turn paper and place long side (11") at the top of the scoring board. Score at 2 3/4". This will create a panel that will be the bottom of the bag.
Repeat with second piece of cardstock. Burnish all folds with bone folder.
Snip up the score lines on either side of the 2 3/4" panel, ONLY to the 2 3/4" score line.
Both pieces of cardstock should now look like this.
Choose one piece of cardstock to be the front of the bag. Flip this piece over (the 2 3/4" panel, the side panels and flaps should fold back ) and adhere the patterned paper piece (5 3/8" x 8 1/8") to the large panel of this piece.
Now flip over the cardstock piece that will be the back of the bag. Add tear and tape along the very outer edge of the long side panels, the flaps, and the middle panel (2 3/4" panel) as shown. Also add small pieces of tape to the flaps and bottom panel (2 3/4" panel) just under the score line as shown.
The cardstock piece for the front should only get tape on the flaps as shown.
On each piece (front and back) remove backing from tear and tape on the flaps (only) and then bend flaps in and adhere to bottom panel as shown.
You should now have a front piece and a back piece that look like this.
Remove the paper backing from the tear and tape on the bottom panel of the back piece and maneuver the bottom panel of the back piece over the bottom panel of the front piece. Stick together and press. Tip: You can also put something heavy inside the bag to press the panels together (i.e. bar of soap, candle, etc.)
Remove the paper backing from the tear and tape on each side (one at a time) and stick sides together.
Tip: lay bag down on it's side and press seam with your hand or a bone folder to adhere.
Create a "tic" mark with a pencil at 1 1/2" and 4" along the top edge of each side of the bag to indicate where to make holes for the ribbon handles.
Punch holes for the ribbon on each side.
Attach ribbon handles by threading the ribbon through the holes (outside to inside) and knotting.
Add some tissue paper and there you have it! You can easily customize this bag for any occasion by using different patterned paper, or even different dimensions to fit a larger (or smaller) gift!
