Project Recipe
Cut cardstock pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Real Red Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 7" square from Whisper White Cardstock
- 4-1/2" x 5-3/4" from Whisper White Cardstock
- 6 strips each 1" x 7" from Real Red Cardstock
- 6 strips each 1" x 7" from Basic Black Cardstock
- 4-1/4" square from Whisper White Cardstock
- 3" square from Real Red Cardstock
- 3/4" x 3" from Basic Black Cardstock
- 1/2" x 2-3/4" from Whisper White Cardstock
Adhere alternating strips of Real Red and Basic Black across the 7" square of white cardstock leaving about 1/16" of white showing between each strip. Make sure you use lots of adhesive on the back of each strip.
Place the white square with strips attached on your Paper Trimmer so the strips are horizontal. Cut off 1" strips so you get strips with alternating black and red squares on them.
Place the 4-1/2" x 5-3/4" white rectangle on top of the Silicone Craft Sheet. This will make it easier to peel things up in later steps.
Adhere the alternating black and red 1" strips to the white rectangle so the different color squares are off set and there is about 1/16" of white showing between each strip. Use lots of adhesive on the back of each strip. It's okay if they stick out over the white rectangle. They won't really stick to the Silicone Craft Sheet which is why you are using it!
Peel the chessboard rectangle off the Silicone Craft Sheet and use Paper Snips to trim off any excess cardstock strips hanging over the edges.
Place the chessboard rectangle upside down on your Paper Trimmer and trim it down to 4" x 5-1/4". Placing the rectangle upside down on the trimmer makes it less likely that the cutting blade will snag on any of the cardstock edges and pull them up or out of alignment.
Mount the set of chess pieces image from the Game On Set on Block D. Ink it up with the Memento Pad. Stamp it in the center of the 4-1/4" white square.
Pick out the smooth square die that cuts out a smooth square that is 2-3/8" wide from the Layering Squares Dies. Put it on top of the stamped chess pieces so it forms a diamond over the chess pieces on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. You will have a little more white space under the chess pieces than above them. Run through the tool.
Make sure you have some paper (Grid Paper works great) at your work space.to protect the work surface. The Stampin' Blends Markers will bleed through the cardstock that you are coloring so you need to protect your work surface.
Place the chess pieces diamond cut out on the work paper and start coloring with the Stampin' Blends Markers. The markers have a brush tip for coloring in larger areas and a fine tip for coloring in smaller areas.
Use the Dark and Light Smoky Slate Markers to color in three of the chess pieces as shown.
Use the Light and Dark Real Red Markers to color in the remaining two chess pieces as shown.
Use the Color Lifter Stampin' Blends Marker as needed to remove excess color.
Pick out the scalloped square die that cuts out a scalloped square that is 2-1/2" wide from the Layering Squares Dies. Put it on top of the Real Red square on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Run through the tool.
Adhere the colored chess pieces diamond cut out to the Real Red scalloped cut out.
Adhere the matted chess pieces diamond cut out to the center of the chessboard rectangle.
Cut a 6" piece of the Real Red 1/8" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon from the Playful Pets Trim Combo Pack.
Lay the ribbon across the chessboard rectangle so it is about 1" from the bottom. If you can get it across one of the white lines between the squares, that is good. It should overlap the bottom of the chess pieces diamond. Flip the rectangle over and fold the ends of the ribbon over. Adhere the ends of the ribbon in place with pieces of Tear & Tape Adhesive.
Remove the protective backing from the Tear & Tape strips and add Stampin' Seal to the back of the chessboard rectangle. Adhere it to the front of the Real Red card.
Unlock the Banners Pick A Punch. Slide one short edge of the 3/4" wide black strip into the left side of the punch (the side of the punch with the outward notched top) as far as it will go. Punch. Repeat with the other end of the black strip. Leave the punch unlocked.
Slide one short edge of the 1/2" x 2-3/4" white strip into the left side of the punch (the side of the punch with the outward notched top) as far as it will go. Punch. Repeat with the other end of the white strip.
Mount the "Hope your day is all fun & games" sentiment from the Game On Set on Block G. Ink it up with the Memento Pad. Stamp it in the center of the punched white strip.
Adhere the stamped, punched white strip to the center of the punched black strip.
Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the layered sentiment strip to the front of the card so it is centered over the ribbon and under the chess pieces on the diamond cut out.
Cut a 6" piece of the Real Red 1/8" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon from the Playful Pets Trim Combo Pack.
Fold the ribbon in half. Slide one end of the folded ribbon under the ribbon already on the card front just to the left of the sentiment punch out. Tie the ribbon in place using a half knot. Trim the ends.
