P retty ombre birthday card using the emboss resist technique and Stampin' Up! products.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Basic White Thick Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Basic White Cardstock
- 3/4" x 3-1/2" from Melon Mambo Cardstock
As you are ready to stamp using the Friendly Hello Set, place the cardstock on the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Using the mat will help you get a cleaner image each time you stamp. Put a piece of Grid Paper on top of the Mat to protect it from ink.
Mount the two large flowers image from the Friendly Hello Set on Block I. Ink it up with the VersaMark Ink Pad. Stamp it multiple times down the right side and bottom of the vertical white rectangle. Let some of the images go off the edges of the cardstock.
Lay the stamped cardstock rectangle on top of some Grid Paper in the center. Sprinkle on some clear powder from the Basics Stampin' Emboss Powders so it covers the entire rectangle. Tap off excess powder, trying not to smear the powder flower images. Return the excess powder to the container to use again later.
Heat the powder with the Heat Tool until it is completely melted (shiny and smooth).
Place the stamped and heat embossed cardstock rectangle on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface.
Rub a Blending Brush across the open Flirty Flamingo Ink Pad to get it inky. Lightly rub the inky Blending Brush over the centers of all the heat embossed flowers. Then, rub it over the top third of the vertical, heat embossed white rectangle. Get more ink on the Blending Brush as needed.
Tip: I just clean my Blending Brushes when I'm done using them by running them under water until no more color is coming off. Then, I let them air dry. They may be stained, but they are clean enough to use with any color of ink in the future
Rub a different Blending Brush across the open Melon Mambo Ink Pad to get it inky. Lightly rub the inky Blending Brush all over the center third of the heat embossed cardstock. Get more ink on the Blending Brush as needed.

Rub a different Blending Brush across the open Poppy Parade Ink Pad to get it inky. Lightly rub the inky Blending Brush all over the bottom third of the heat embossed cardstock. Get more ink on the Blending Brush as needed.

If desired, use the Flirty Flamingo Blending Brush to rub all over the heat embossed rectangle to blend the colors.
Use a clean tissue or paper towel to rub all over the blended cardstock. This will remove excess ink puddled on top of the embossed flower images allowing the white cardstock below to shine through.
Unlock the Banners Pick A Punch. Slide one short edge of the thin Melon Mambo strip into the right side of the punch (the side of the punch with the inward notched top) as far as it will go and get it centered. Punch.
Mount the birthday sentiment from the Friendly Hello Set on Block G. Ink it up with the Poppy Parade Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the thin, punched strip so the end of the sentiment is close to the notched end with the notched end on the right side.
Cut a 5" piece of the White 1/4" Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon.
Lay the ribbon on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface.
Use the brush tip of the Dark Flirty Flamingo Stampin' Blends to color the ribbon on both sides.
Wrap the colored ribbon around the left end of the stamped sentiment banner about 1/8" from the left end of the sentiment. Tie in place with a knot. Trim the ends.
Adhere the stamped sentiment banner with ribbon tied around it to the blended, heat embossed rectangle about 1/2" from the top edge so the flat end of the cardstock sticks over the left edge. There should be about 1/4" of cardstock between the ribbon and the left edge of the large rectangle.
Use Paper Snips Scissors to cut off excess Melon Mambo cardstock on the left edge.
Adhere the stamped, heat embossed, and blended rectangle with sentiment banner attached to the front of the Basic White Thick card.
Use the mini spatula on the Take Your Pick to carefully peel up 5 different sized jewels from a sheet of Iridescent Rhinestone Basic Jewels making sure that you get the adhesive backings as well. Adhere them randomly to the card front as shown.
