G reat masculine birthday card using Stampin' Up! products.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock and designer paper pieces to the following sizes using a Stampin' Trimmer:
- card from Whisper White Thick Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Night of Navy Cardstock
- 3" x 4" of silver stripes on white background design from Springtime Foils Specialty Designer Series Paper, cut it so the stripes are running vertically
- 2-7/8" x 4" from Whisper White Cardstock
If you haven't already done so, use the White Craft Ink Refill to ink up the Uninked Ink Pad.
Open the Simple Stripes Embossing Folder in front of you. Lightly rub the open Whisper White Craft Ink Pad over the inside of the back flap (the one that has raised lines on the inside and does NOT have the "Sizzix" and "Stampin' Up!" logos on it). You are just trying to get a little ink on the raised lines.
Place the Night of Navy rectangle into the Simple Stripes Embossing Folder so the lines run vertically across the rectangle. Place the folder with the card stock inside on top of a Cutting Pad on your Big Shot Platform at the lowest possible setting. Make sure the embossing folder does NOT hang out over the edges of the platform or it will catch the edges of the Big Shot as you crank it through which could damage your folder and Big Shot. Place another Cutting Pad on top of the folder and run through the Big Shot. You should have indented white lines embossed on the cardstock.
Adhere the rectangle of Springtime Foils Specialty Designer Series Paper to the dry embossed Night of Navy rectangle about 7/8" in from the left side.
Adhere the Night of Navy rectangle to the front of the Whisper White Thick card.
Mount the "Happy Birthday!" sentiment from the Eclectic Expressions Set on Block H. Ink it up with the Night of Navy Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the white strip about 3/8" from the top.
Mount the strip of vertical lines image from the Eclectic Expressions Set on Block G. Ink it up with the Smoky Slate Ink Pad. Stamp it just below the word "birthday!" in the center.
Cut a 4-1/2" piece of Night of Navy 3/8" Corduroy Ribbon.
Place a strip of Tear & Tape Adhesive horizontally across the sentiment stamped white strip just under the line of vertical stripes. Remove the protective backing. Adhere the piece of corduroy ribbon to the Tear & Tape. Use Paper Snips to trim off excess ribbon on either side.
Adhere the white sentiment strip to the card front so it is centered across the designer paper and about 3/4" from the top of the designer paper.
Punch out a large, solid, striped star from a sheet of Hearts & Stars Elements.
Press the smooth side of the wooden star element into the VersaMark Pad. Place it inky side up on top of some Grid Paper in the center. Sprinkle on some Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder so it covers all of the wooden star. Tap off excess powder.
Heat the powder with the Heat Tool until it is completely melted (smooth and shiny). Use the Paper-Piercing Tool to hold the star in place while you are heating the embossing powder by pressing the sharp tip into the center of the star. This will help you avoid burning your fingers.
Tip: If you want to protect your work surface from the heat of the Heat Tool, place the star on a heat proof surface like a stone coaster or a baking tray before heating it.
Repeat the above steps by pressing the star into the VersaMark Pad, sprinkling on Stampin' Emboss Powder, tapping off excess, and heating it until shiny and smooth a couple more times so you have a completely smooth and shiny star. Return the excess embossing powder to the container to use again later.
Put some Tear & Tape Adhesive on the back of the silver embossed star and use it to adhere the star to the front of the card at a slight angle on the right side of the ribbon on the sentiment strip.
Carefully remove a Night of Navy star from a sheet of Regals Enamel Shapes making sure you get the adhesive as well as the star. Adhere it to the center of the silver embossed star.
