A
nice way to use up Designer Series Paper. Since it's the focal point of the card, all you need to do is add a sentiment and a few embellishments.
Note - the DSP used on this card is retired.
Project Recipe
Measurements:
Card Base - 4 1/4 x 11, score at 5 1/2
Card Front Layer - 4 1/4 x 5 1/2
Card Inside - 4 x 5 1/4
Piece for sentiment - 3 3/4" x 1"
Pear Pizazz - 3 1/2" x 2"
DSP - 10 x 5 1/2
Score on long end 1", 1 1/2", 2 1/2", 3", 4", 4 1/2", 5 1/2", 6", 7", 7 1/2", 8 1/2", 9
Vellum - 3 x 3 to die cut a circle
Take the 4 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of cardstock and run it through your embossing folder. Attach it to the card base front.
Take the white 4" x 5 1/4" piece and stamp your sentiment of choice.
Use a 1" x 3 3/4" piece of coordinating DSP and add it to the bottom of your white layer.
Scoring the DSP - this is very important to the focal point of the card so take your time when you are scoring! In fact, you may want to practice this step on a plain white piece of printer paper, so that you are comfortable with the scoring and cutting. Then you can keep that template for future use.
Note - if one side of your DSP has a busy pattern, it may be easier to flip it over to the less busy side to score. It's not going to affect the final outcome of your folded piece.
On the 10" side, score at 1", 1 1/2", 2 1/2", 3", 4", 4 1/2", 5 1/2", 6", 7", 7 1/2", 8 1/2", 9". Place a small pencil mark at 4 1/2" and 5 1/2" on both of the 10" sides (top & bottom).
Flip the DSP to the 5 1/2" side and place a small pencil mark at 2 1/4" and 3 1/4". Repeat this on the other 5 1/2" side. Now you should have a total of 8 pencil marks.
Lay the DSP in front of you horizontally (the 10" side). With a ruler and pencil, draw a faint line from the 1st dot on the left (the short side) to the dot at the 4 1/2" mark on the long side. Then draw a line from the 5 1/2" mark on the long side to the first dot on the right-hand side (the short side). Repeat these steps for the bottom part of the DSP. When you are done you should have an elongated triangle. Use the pic for reference.
Cut off each of the corner triangles. You can do this on your paper trimmer or simply cut with scissors.
Decide which pattern you want to be the primary design and lay the DSP with that pattern facing up. Fold the score lines as shown in the card sample. Start with the 4 1/2" score, folding that to the right. Then fold the 4" score line to the left. Then the next score line gets folded to the right, and so on until you reach the final fold. Repeat with the other side, starting with the 5 1/2" score line and folding that to the left.
Open the DSP and apply adhesive to the 1/4" sections of the DSP. Do them one at a time, folding and pressing them down firmly.
Flip the piece over and apply small strips of adhesive to the 1/4" section on the back side. This will help the pleated piece lay flat.
This is what the front will look like (your primary design face up)
This is what the back will look like.
Apply adhesive to the back of the pleated piece. You will want to use a fair amount of adhesive to ensure that the piece stays flat. Just be cautious if using wet glue, you don't want to saturate the paper.
Die cut a circle from vellum and die cut a banner for the sentiment. Punch the large bough.
Stamp your sentiment on the banner. Apply a small amount of adhesive on the back-left hand corner and attach the bough punch piece.
Attach the banner over the center of the vellum circle.
Apply dimensionals to the back of the circle and attach it to the card front.
Add embellishments.
