F un chalkboard effect Christmas card using Stampin' Up! products.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Cherry Cobbler Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Basic Black Cardstock
- 2 pieces each 1" x 2-1/2" from Whisper White Cardstock
- 2 pieces each 1" x 2-1/2" from Cherry Cobbler Cardstock
- dark colored scratch paper
Fold the Cherry Cobbler card closed. Slide a corner of the FOLDED card into the angle of the Detailed Trio Punch that corner rounds. Use the guides on the base of the punch to line up the corner in the punch. Press down firmly on the center of the punch to punch. Repeat until all four corners of the FOLDED card have been punched.
Slide a corner of the Basic Black rectangle into the angle of the Detailed Trio Punch that corner rounds. Use the guides on the base of the punch to line up the corner in the punch. Press down firmly on the center of the punch to punch. Repeat until all four corners of the Basic Black rectangle have been punched.
Pick out the more solid candy cane die from the Cup Of Cheer Dies. Put it on top of one of the small strips of Whisper White Cardstock on a platform on your cutting and embossing tool. Run through the tool. Use the Take Your Pick Die Brush Tip and paper-piercing tool on the Take Your Pick to remove the pieces. Repeat with the other white strip.
Pick out the more open, striped candy cane die from the Cup Of Cheer Dies. Put it on top of one of the small strips of Cherry Cobbler Cardstock on a platform on your cutting and embossing tool. Run through the tool. Use the Take Your Pick Die Brush Tip and paper-piercing tool on the Take Your Pick to remove the pieces. Repeat with the other Cherry Cobbler strip.
Use the Fine-Tip Glue Pen or Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the striped, Cherry Cobbler candy canes over the top of the solid, white candy canes. Make sure that the two candy canes face in opposite directions.
Carefully remove a magnet from the back of the Stamparatus.
Tip: To make it easier to grab the magnets and to help keep them from breaking if they snap together, wrap them in strips of washi tape or masking tape leaving folded over pieces to grab on to.
Place the Stamparatus in front of you with the open sides of the Stamparatus on the left and bottom. Insert one hinged plate into the Stamparatus on the right side. Put the Stamparatus Foam Mat on the base of the Stamparatus. Put a piece of Small Grid Paper on the foam mat on the base of the Stamparatus.
Place the corner rounded Basic Black rectangle on the base of the Stamparatus somewhere near the center. Make note of the measurement lines so you can put the cardstock in the same place again later.
WITHOUT ADHERING, place the two candy canes in the lower right corner of the black rectangle so they cross each other. Put the magnet on top of the candy canes to hold them and the black rectangle in place.
Lay the sentiments and small images from the Cup of Christmas Set on top of the black rectangle all around the candy canes. Make sure the images are oriented correctly and the stamping side is face down on the cardstock. Let some of the images go off the edges of the cardstock.
Close the plate on the Stamparatus and press firmly so the stamps stick to the plate. Open the plate.
Remove the Basic Black cardstock and candy canes for now and set aside. Ink up the sentiments and images on the plate using the Whisper White Craft Ink Pad (add more ink to the pad if needed). Put a piece of dark colored scratch paper on the Stamparatus base. Close the plate and press firmly. Remove the scratch paper and make sure the words are straight and right side up and everything is spaced as you want.
Tip: Slide a Clear-Mount Stamp Case under the plate before inking up the stamp. This gives you a firm, flat surface to push against making it easier to ink up the stamp.
Tip: If you have a Whisper White Craft Stampin' Spot on hand, use it to ink up the stamps instead of a full sized ink pad. It will give you more control and will help keep stray ink from getting on the plate.
Tip: Be careful working with Craft Ink as it will permanently stain clothing.
If everything looks good, replace the Basic Black rectangle where it was before. Replace the magnet across the bottom right corner where the candy canes were before.
Re-ink the stamps on the plate with the Whisper White Craft Ink Pad and stamp.
Remove the stamped black cardstock and set aside to dry for a moment. You can speed up drying using a Heat Tool if desired. Small smudges of the white craft ink make it look even more like a chalkboard though.
Cut a 3" piece of Cherry Cobbler 3/8" Diagonal Stripe Ribbon.
Tie a half knot in the center of the ribbon. Trim the ends.
Use the Fine-Tip Glue Pen or Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the candy canes to the blank space on the stamped black rectangle where they were before so they cross each other.
Adhere the black rectangle to the front of the Cherry Cobbler card.
Use a Mini Glue Dot to adhere the ribbon knot to the front of the card at an angle so it is over the candy canes where they cross.
Use the mini spatula on the Take Your Pick tool to pick up the 3 small jewels from a sheet of Rhinestone Basic Jewels being sure to get the adhesives as well. Adhere them randomly to the front of the card.
