I
was inspired to CASE a project shared by Donna Lester using the new Lights Aglow DSP.
This cracker box holds quite a few treats. It is a little larger than most treat boxes yet will still fit into a child's stocking and/or look great when given as a gift to a neighbor or co-worker. The final project measures 2 1/2" across, 7" tall, and 1 1/4" deep.
Project Recipe
Materials
8 1/2" x 10 1/2" Real Red Cardstock (CS)
6" x 7" Lights Aglow Designer Series Paper (DSP)
1 3/4" x 2 1/2" White CS
1 7/8" x 2 5/8" Gold Foil
Score the Real Red Cardstock using the following measurements. NOTE: the score lines are difficult to see in the photo.
On the Short Side:
1 1/4", 3 3/4", 5", 7 1/2"
On the Long Side:
1 1/4", 6", 6 1/2", 7", 8 1/2", 9 3/4"
Trim the CS after it has been scored.
*From the bottom left-hand corner, cut and remove the 1/2" piece.
*Cut vertically on the next 3 score lines from the bottom of the CS to the first score line,
*At the top of the CS, remove the six (2 high and 3 wide) pieces on the far left.
*Remove the 2 pieces on the top right.
*This leaves us with two pieces at the top that will become the top of the box and the insertion tab. Make a slight diagonal cut on the edge of the top piece to aid the tab as it is inserted into the final box.
Burnish the horizontal lines starting at the bottom of the CS. All pieces will fold under EXCEPT the third line from the bottom. This score line will fold up creating the accordion-like mechanism of the box.
Burnish the vertical lines and make the collapsing mechanism. This is easy but is difficult to describe. I'll do my best for you.
*From the right-hand side, snip a small (roughly 1/2") triangle between the three mechanism lines.
*Fold under at the score line and burnish, then remove a small triangle piece on the fold. When you open the fold, it results in a diamond cut out.
*Repeat the fold, burnish, triangle cut process 3 more times.
Cut the DSP so that you have the following sized pieces.
1 3/8" x 2 3/8" (Cut 3)
2 3/8" x 4 5/8" (Cut 2)
1 1/8 x 1 3/8" (Cut 2)
1 1/8" x 4 5/8" (Cut 2)
Hint - If you want the DSP design to appear to be wrapped around the box, start with one piece of DSP that measures 7" x 7 3/8" and cut using the attached template.
Adhere the DSP pieces to the CS.
Begin assembling the box by flattening it and attach Tear and Tape to the edge.
Fold over the left-hand side and attach to the right-hand side.
To form the bottom of box, you will first fold in the small tabs. Fold down the top piece, and using Tear & Tape, adhere the bottom piece to the top.
To make the box easier to open, you will need to create a thumb-hold. I used a 1" hole punch, but you can always use a pair of scissors if you don't have one.
Decorate the box with embellishments, ribbons, and sentiments as desired.
I used the Very Best Trio punch to make the tag and matted it with gold foil.
The sentiment came from the Window Wishes stamp set and was set with VersaMark ink, the gold embossing powders and the heat tool.
Finally, I stamped and die cut the candles out enhanced them with gold foil scraps and black string. I then attached them with mini dimensionals.
Now for the fun part, filling the box!
