T
his is an adorable little "action card" which is easy to do once you get the steps down right.
Project Recipe
For this card I used the stamp set Bella and Friends but also offered my stampers the option of using Pretty Kitty instead for the cat lovers in the group. Cut and stamp/color all needed pieces then assemble in this order.
Base of card Night of Navy cardstock cut 4.25 x11",score at 5.5' and fold.
Designer Series Paper Delightful Daisy cut 4"x5.25" (use Navy with vertical lines pattern)
Strip of Crushed Curry cardstock 2'X8.5' then score at 1.75", 2.75" and 3.75".
Punch "tab" from curry scraps with Circle Tab punch and adhere to bottom edge of this strip with strong tape.
Additional strip of Crushed Curry cardstock (shown here in white for ease of viewing) 1"x4.25" strip taped along the short side edges only to adhere to front of the card base to help feed the pull strip through smoothly. Attach this approx. two inches from bottom edge of card after you see how long your glider strip will be making sure the pull tab ends up near the very bottom edge of the card and the top panel of pull strip is about the same distance from top edge.
This yellow piece shown is the pull tab mechanism for the slider card. Score as noted below. There are many great tutorials out there, the measurements on the one I followed was written by Jeanie Stark (thank you Jeanie!)of www.juststampin.com which allowed for 3 images sized 1-3/4"x 2" stamped on white cardstock and layered on dark cardstock 2"x2.25".
For this style of pull tab, cut cardstock at 2" x 8.5" and score at 1-3/4th", 2-3/4th " and 3-3/4".
At the bottom of tab I added a pull tab punched from matching cardstock from the new Stampin' Up! "circle tab" punch and attached it to the bottom of the tab with strong adhesive. This gives the recipient a little tab to slide the card up and down easily. Other tutorials I watched used the scallop tag punch with a ribbon pull as noted in this version. I liked the little tab pull for my final club project version.
Stamp desired animal images onto the small Whisper White panels. Color with watercolor pencils in desired colors, then watercolor or blend the colors.
Layer stamped white squares onto the slightly larger Night of Navy squares.
Now you are ready to put together the working part of this card...attach the 1"x4' yellow strip (shown in white for easy of viewing in this photo) to the base of the card (adhere only at the sides onto decorative paper layer). Put Tear 'n Tape (a strong adhesive also known as ScorTape or Red Liner/Sticky Strip ) adhesive on ONLY the bottom edges of the yellow strip to attach at outside edges of the DSP. The center of this area must be free of adhesive in the center to allow the images to glide smoothly. If you get adhesive anywhere in the middle your card won't slide. Attach the horizontal 4"x1" yellow strip so it's approx. 1.25" from the bottom edge of the card, leaving the top of strip approx. 2.25" from bottom edge of card. (approx. 2/3rds of the way down the card...see photo below)
attach the circle tab punch securely to the bottom of the scored yellow pull strip as a "handle" for the slider mechanism. Make sure the only adhesive on the bottom of the 1"x4" yellow horizontal strip is at the very side edges of cards to allow the pictures to slide smoothly with the scored yellow "pull strip". Position it so the bottom end of pull strip with attached tab is near the bottom edge of card.
Attach the top edge only of each of the double mat stamped critters at the score lines of the yellow scored strip. Start at the top and work your way down.
Attach the top edge only of each of the double mat stamped critters at the score lines of the yellow scored strip. Start at the top and work your way down.
Now apply Tear 'n Tape adhesive along the top edge only of each of the stamped layered images and stick them just below each of the 3 scored lines of the yellow slider mechanism (make sure it's just below the score line so they can flip and fold easily). After all 3 images are securely adhered to the pulling mechanism, apply a strip of Tear 'n Tape adhesive on the back "tail" portion at the bottom of the yellow pull strip (the part under the 3rd stamped and layered image) and stick it to the center of the bottom edge of the 1"x4" yellow horizontal strip. Yes, that's right...it's finally to put adhesive on that part! Taping the bottom side down will secure the stamped imaged and still allow them to slider and flip nicely but not pull off the card.
If using the Bella and Friends ( dog stamp) set, you will notice that the cutest puppy with the balloon and the parrot is a little too large for the white square panel. Here's a little trick to allow you to include the bird and balloon. Stamp the image twice....once on the little white square panel and once onto extra white cardstock. You only need the parrot and the balloon. Then use your snips to trim out the balloon and the bird and attach them with adhesive after sticking the white square on the blue square...that way they both look like they are "floating" off the edge of the card. If you use this puppy image, be sure to put him at the top of the column so he stays on top and the bird and balloon don't peek out underneath another puppy.
Here is the Stylized Birthday greeting stamp which worked well on the inside white panel of the card.
