T his adorable owl was so cute and easy to make but when I got him colored the way I wanted I needed a background that popped. I didn't have enough designer series paper of any one color for the class so I decided to make my own with a mask. This mask is retired but Stampin' Up! has some great options available that could be used as a replacement. I used the Adorable Owls Stamp set Item #160269. It is a January/February 2023 Sale A Bration Stamp Set but because as I prepared this, the catalog has not gone live and I can't generate a link from this site.
Project Recipe
I cut a piece of white cardstock 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. It will be trimmed down later but it is good to start with a piece a little bigger than needed so you don't end up with a white edge from the stencil sides.
Using removable (painter's, washi, etc) tape and tape down the edge of the mask. Make sure you don't cover any of the design when applying the tape.
Using a blending brush or sponge and apply the ink. (A sponge will typically make the design darker). Apply as desired.
Lift the mask (using caution as it is covered in ink). Trim the card stock to 4" x 5 1/4".
Stamp the owl and sentiment on the white piece of card stock that has been die cut with the Deckled Rectangle die cut. Color the owl as desired and assemble. The white owl piece is layered on top of the larger Granny Apple Green piece that was also cut with the Deckled Rectangle die cuts.
If you like, you can add some dots on the inside of the card or envelope to make a matched set.
