F or most of my life I heard you can't mix gold with silver, but once I got into papercrafts... well, we don't like rules here, right?
Project Recipe
This card is for this week's Global Design Project challenge. The challenge is to CASE (Copy and Share Everything) a lovely card by Bibi Cameron, in whatever way we choose. I decided to use Bibi's layout for a Christmas card. I flipped the layout on its side for my card.
My card base is Thick Whisper White, and my popped up panel is regular Whisper White. The base is 5.5" x 4.25", and I cut the top panel to 5" x 3.75".
For the top panel, the first thing I did was to cut a mask using the largest tree from the Perfect Pines Framelits. I temporarily adhered the mask to the panel using washi tape. Just don't press down too hard on the washi so it doesn't tear your paper when you take the mask off.
I sponged on Mint Macaron ink using a Stampin' Sponge. I wanted a slight ombre effect for my tree, so I first sponged ink on the whole tree. Next, I sponged ink on the bottom three levels but didn't sponge the top tier. Then I sponged ink over the bottom half of the tree, then again over just the bottom tier. Finally I sponged one last time on the tree trunk.
Before moving on to the next step, make sure your tree is dry. My ink was still a little wet, so I dried it a little with the Heat Tool.
I stamped this awesome sentiment from the Wonderful Year stamp set in Versamark. (Seriously, this stamp is probably my favorite stamp in the whole holiday catalog -- it does all the work for you!). The two-tone embossing is really simple. I started at the bottom, with Silver embossing powder. I sprinkled the Silver over the bottom line of the stamped image, put the excess powder back in the jar, and melted the powder with the Heat Tool.
Next I sprinkled Gold embossing powder over the "wonderful" middle line of the sentiment. It doesn't have to be perfect. Mine is not exact. It just gives that flash of gold right in the middle of the stamp that catches the eye and makes you look again. Now this next instruction is important: When you tap or shake off the excess Gold powder, make sure you keep the panel right side up and tap on the bottom of the paper. If you turn it upside down, you'll cover the top line of words, too. Emboss with the Heat Tool.

I felt like the card was still missing a little pizzazz, and I really wanted to use Sweet Sugarplum. I actually don't care for Sweet Sugarplum most of the time, but I *love* it with Mint Macaron, so I went for it on purpose this time. I inked up the sprinkles? snow? stamp from Merriest Wishes, stamped off onto my scrap paper first, then stamped on the white panel. I wanted it to be a little less saturated than usual. I did this all the way across the top of the card.
I love these sequins. Stampin' Up! has been ON their sequins game lately. Just beautiful collections. These are the Fancy Frost sequins, and they're delightful.
I added a small, folded piece of Silver Glimmer Ribbon (from the 3/8" Glimmer Ribbon Combo Pack), tied a bow around it with Whisper White Baker's Twine, and added that to the card with Glue Dots. I popped the panel up on Dimensionals.
For the inside of the card, I stamped the snow/sprinkles along the top again, then stamped a second sentiment from the same Wonderful Year stamp set in Mint Macaron and Sweet Sugarplum.
I'll be filming a video this week to show you the masking and two-tone embossing techniques, so stay tuned for that.
In the meantime, my online store is open 24/7. All the supplies I used in my card are listed below with direct links to my store.
See y'all soon!
