Piece of Cake Woven Iced Cake |
A sweet birthday card using paper piecing and hinge step Stamparatus techniques and Stampin' Up! products.
Cut cardstock, designer paper, and foil sheets pieces to the following sizes using a cutting and scoring tool:
- card from Purple Posy Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" from Seaside Spray Cardstock
- 1-1/4" x 3-1/2" of blue with pink, white, and light purple tapestry design from Woven Threads Designer Series Paper
- 1-1/4" x 3-1/2" from Silver Foil Sheets
- 1/2" x 4" from Purple Posy Cardstock
Carefully remove a magnet from the back of the Stamparatus.
Tip: To make it easier to grab the magnets and to help keep them from breaking if they snap together, wrap them in strips of washi tape or masking tape leaving folded over pieces to grab on to.
Place the Stamparatus in front of you with the open sides of the Stamparatus on the left and bottom. Insert one hinged plate into the Stamparatus on the right side. Put the Stamparatus Foam Mat on the base of the Stamparatus.
Put a piece of Small Grid Paper on the foam mat on the base of the Stamparatus. To make the measurements line up with what I am giving you, make sure the ruler lines on the Small Grid Paper are against the top and right edges of the Stamparatus base where the hinges are. This will mean the paper is "upside down."
Place the Seaside Spray rectangle on the base of the Stamparatus so the top short edge is on the 6-3/4” horizontal line on the Small Grid Paper and the left long edge is on the 3” vertical line on the Small Grid Paper. The cardstock should be vertical. Use one magnet across the bottom to hold the cardstock in place.
Pick out the "enjoy every crumb!" sentiment from the Piece of Cake Photopolymer Stamp Set. Place the image upside down on the top of the vertical rectangle of Seaside Spray on the Stamparatus base so that the sentiment is in the upper left corner of the rectangle.
Pick out the "cut the cake!" sentiment from the Piece of Cake Photopolymer Stamp Set. Place the image upside down on the top of the vertical rectangle of Seaside Spray on the Stamparatus base so that the sentiment is about 1/4" below the first sentiment and the right edge of the sentiment is on the right edge of the cardstock.
Close the plate on the Stamparatus and press firmly so the stamps stick to the plate. Open the plate.
Remove the Seaside Spray cardstock for now and set aside. Ink up the sentiments on the plate using the Seaside Spray Ink Pad and stamp onto the Grid Paper on the Stamparatus to make sure the words are straight, right side up, and evenly spaced.
Tip: Slide a Clear-Mount Stamp Case under the plate before inking up the stamp. This gives you a firm, flat surface to push against making it easier to ink up the stamp.
Tip: If you have a Seaside Spray Stampin' Spot on hand, use it to ink up the stamp instead of a full sized ink pad. It will give you more control and will help keep stray ink from getting on the plate.
If everything looks good, replace the Seaside Spray rectangle where it was before (top short edge on the 6-3/4” horizontal line and left long edge on the 3” vertical line). Replace the magnet across the bottom.
Re-ink the stamps on the plate with the Seaside Spray Ink Pad and stamp.
Remove the plate from the hinges and then reinsert it in the hinges one step down. Leave the cardstock in place. Re-ink the stamps on the plate and stamp.
Move the cardstock up so the top edge is flush with the top of the Stamparatus base. Make sure the left edge of the cardstock is still on the 3" vertical line. Put the magnet along the top to hold the cardstock in place.
Remove the plate from the hinges and then reinsert it in the hinges one step down (this should be the 3rd space from the top). Re-ink the stamps on the plate and stamp.
Leave the cardstock in place. Remove the plate from the hinges and then reinsert it in the hinges one step down (this should be the 4th space from the top). Re-ink the stamps on the plate and stamp.
Leave the cardstock in place. Remove the plate from the hinges and flip it over so you have a clean plate.
Pick out the "hope this year is a piece of cake" sentiment from the Piece of Cake Photopolymer Stamp Set. Place the image upside down on the vertical rectangle of Seaside Spray on the Stamparatus base so that the sentiment is centered side to side and is centered in the blank space between the previously stamped "enjoy every crumb" and "cut the cake" stepped sentiments.
Close the plate on the Stamparatus and press firmly so the stamp sticks to the plate. Open the plate.
Remove the Seaside Spray cardstock for now and set aside. Ink up the sentiment on the plate with the Seaside Spray Ink Pad and stamp onto the Grid Paper on the Stamparatus to make sure the sentiment is straight and right side up.
If everything looks good, replace the Seaside Spray rectangle where it was before (top short edge flush with the top of the Stamparatus base and left long edge on the 3” vertical line). Replace the magnet across the top.
Re-ink the stamp on the plate with the Seaside Spray Ink Pad and stamp.
If you are done stamping, clean the stamps with the Simply Shammy and put them away.
As you are ready to stamp using the Piece of Cake Photopolymer Set, place the cardstock or designer paper on the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Using the mat will help you get a cleaner image each time you stamp. Put some paper (Grid Paper works great) on top of the mat to protect it from ink.
Mount the "Happy Birthday" sentiment from the Piece of Cake Set on Block G. Ink it up with the Seaside Spray Ink Pad. Stamp it on the left and right edges of the stamped Seaside Spray rectangle filling in the blank spaces along the edges. Remember to re-ink the stamp each time. The sentiments will go off the edges. Clean the stamp with the Simply Shammy when done, but leave the stamp on the block.
Unlock the Banner Triple Punch. Hold the punch upside down so you can see the punching area. Slide one short edge of the strip of Purple Posy Cardstock into the punch as far as it will go. Line it up in the center of the punching area. Punch.
Ink up the "Happy Birthday" sentiment on Block G with the Rococo Rose Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the punched Purple Posy strip so the notch is on the right side and the end of the sentiment is about 1/4" from the bottom of the notch. Clean the stamp with the Simply Shammy and put it away.
Adhere the sentiment strip to the bottom of the stamped Seaside Spray rectangle about 1/2" from the bottom so the notched end sticks out on the right side a small amount. Trim off excess cardstock on the left edge as needed using Paper Snips.
Adhere the stamped Seaside Spray rectangle to the front of the Purple Posy card so it is about 1/2" from the top, right, and bottom edges.
Unlock the Cake Buider Punch. Hold the punch upside down so you can see the punching area. Slide the Silver Foil Sheets strip into the punch. Get it centered in the cake stand punching area. Punch. Leave the punch unlocked.
Use tiny pieces of Tear & Tape Adhesive on the back of the cake stand punch out to adhere it to the front of the card so it covers the left edge of the sentiment strip and is centered over the left edge of the Seaside Spray rectangle.
Mount the cake with dots, flowers, and stripes image from the Piece of Cake Set on Block B. Ink it up with the Rococo Rose Ink Pad. Stamp it on one end of the strip of Woven Threads Designer Paper.
Hold the unlocked Cake Builder Punch upside down so you can see the punching area. Get the cake image centered in the corresponding punching area. Punch.
Adhere the cake punch out to the top of the cake stand in the center.
Cut a 3” piece of Silver 3/8" Metallic-Edge Ribbon.
Tie a half knot in the center of the ribbon. Trim the ends.
Use a Mini Glue Dot to adhere the ribbon knot to the center of the leg of the cake stand.
Use the mini spatula on the Take Your Pick to carefully peel up a large Rococo Rose dot from a sheet of 2019-2021 In Color Faceted Dots making sure that you get the adhesive backing as well. Adhere it to the top of the cake.
