Crafting Forever Polished Stone Pens |
P retty card to say hello using Stampin' Up! products and the polished stone technique.

Cut cardstock pieces to the following sizes using a Stampin' Trimmer:
- card from Whisper White Thick Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x -5-1/4" from Night of Navy Cardstock
- 2-5/8" x 3-5/8" from Rich Razzleberry Cardstock
- 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" from Glossy White Cardstock
Place the Glossy White Cardstock piece on top of a piece of paper towel or a couple of sheets of scratch paper on your work surface to protect it from ink and alcohol.
Wet a cotton ball with some rubbing alcohol. Then, add one drop of each color of Ink Refill (Night of Navy, Pool Party, and Rich Razzleberry) close to each other on the wet cotton ball.
Pounce the inky side of the cotton ball all over the piece of glossy cardstock until the entire piece is covered in splotches of color. Set the cardstock aside to let it dry.
Tip: This technique is called polished stone.
Pick out the largest flower and leaves stem thinlit from the Flourish Thinlits. Build the following sandwich in this order on top of the Big Shot:
- Big Shot Platform with Thin Die Adapter removed
- white Impressions Pad from Big Shot Embossing Mats
- thin dark blue silicone rubber mat from Big Shot Embossing Mats
- Night of Navy rectangle
- flower and leaves stem thinlit with cutting side down so the flower on the left side of the thinlit is as close as possible to the upper right corner of the cardstock and there is about 1-1/4" below the flower on the right side of the thinlit
- clear Standard Cutting Pad
Run the sandwich through the Big Shot a couple of times.
Tip: This sandwich will let the detailed thinlit dry emboss the cardstock instead of cutting it.
If you haven't already done so, ink up the Uninked Pad by squeezing some of the Whisper White Craft Ink Refill onto the pad and spreading it around while mushing it into the pad.
Tip: You can use a Palette Knife, the back of a plastic spoon, or the edge of an expired credit or gift card to rub the ink into the pad.
Rub the Embossing Buddy all over the dry embossed Night of Navy rectangle. This will help keep embossing powder from sticking where you don't want it.
Mount the "Just a Note" sentiment from the Flourishing Phrases Set on Block B. Ink it up with the Whisper White Craft Ink Pad. Stamp it in the lower right corner below the dry embossed flowers and leaves stem and about 1/2" from the right edge.
Tip: Work quickly so the ink doesn't dry before you have a chance to sprinkle on the embossing powder.
Tip: To avoid getting your Stampin' Scrub all messy with craft ink, use a baby wipe to clean off most of the craft ink and then use the Stampin' Mist and Stampin' Scrub to finish cleaning the stamp.
Lay the dry embossed and sentiment stamped cardstock on top of the Grid Paper in the center. Sprinkle on some White Stampin' Emboss Powder so it covers all of the stamped sentiment. Tap off excess powder. Return the excess powder to the container to use again later.
Heat the powder with the Heat Tool until it is completely melted (smooth and shiny).
VERY LIGHTLY, rub a Sponge Dauber across the open Whisper White Craft Ink Pad to get it inky. Then, VERY LIGHTLY rub the inky dauber over the dry embossed flowers and leaves stem. Get more ink on the dauber as needed.
Tip: I just clean my Sponge Daubers when I'm done using them by running them under water until no more color is coming off. Then, I let them air dry. They may be stained, but they are clean enough to use with any color of ink in the future.
Adhere the dry embossed, heat embossed, and inked Night of Navy layer to the front of the Whisper White Thick card.
If your polished stone glossy cardstock piece is dry, proceed to the next step.
Tip: You can speed up the drying by using a Heat Tool or by pressing the inky side of the cardstock against a piece of scratch paper to absorb excess alcohol and ink.
Rub the Embossing Buddy all over the polished stone glossy cardstock rectangle. This will help keep embossing powder from sticking where you don't want it.
Mount the set of three pens image from the Crafting Forever Set on Block D. Ink it up with the Whisper White Craft Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the polished stone glossy cardstock piece.
Lay the stamped polished stone glossy cardstock on top of the Grid Paper in the center. Sprinkle on some White Stampin' Emboss Powder so it covers all of the stamped image. Tap off excess powder. Return the excess powder to the container to use again later.
Heat the powder with the Heat Tool until it is completely melted (smooth and shiny).
Adhere the heat embossed polished stone glossy cardstock to the Rich Razzleberry rectangle. Then, adhere the matted rectangles to the left side of the cardfront so it covers the stem end of the dry embossed flowers and leaves stem. Make sure the pens are pointing down.
Use the Chalk Marker to add little lines of white coming out from the tips of the pens.
Carefully peel up 5 small rhinestones from a sheet of Clear Rhinestone Basic Jewels making sure that you get the adhesive backings as well. Adhere them to the centers of the bud knobs on the upper flower stem on the dry embossed flowers and leaves stem.
