H andmade birthday card using Stampin' Up! products and watercoloring.
Cut cardstock and Adhesive Sheets pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Soft Suede Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Crumb Cake Cardstock
- 2-5/8" x 4" from Soft Suede Cardstock
- 2-1/4" x 4" from Very Vanilla Cardstock
- 1" x 4" from Crumb Cake Cardstock
- 7/8" x 3-7/8" from Adhesive Sheets
Put the vanilla rectangle horizontally on top of a piece of Grid Paper to protect your work surface.
Mount the dock image from the By The Dock Set on Block E. Ink it up with the Saddle Brown StazOn Ink Pad. Stamp it on the vanilla strip so the bottom of the dock goes off the edge of the cardstock in the lower left corner.
Unscrew the Water Painters and fill the barrels with water before screwing the tips back in place.
Tip: The Water Painters unscrew in the opposite direction of what you'd expect.
Place the piece of stamped vanilla cardstock on some Grid Paper to help protect your work surface.
Squeeze the lid of the Pool Party Ink Pad to get a pool of ink in the lid. Open the pad but leave the lid exposed. Gently squeeze the flat brush tip Water Painter to get some drops of water in the lid. Stir the ink and water together with the brush tip. Pick up some watery ink from the lid using the brush tip. Swish the watery ink across the vanilla cardstock everywhere except the dock, rope, and bird until you get the color coverage you want. Get more watery ink on the brush tip as needed. Swipe the brush tip across some Grid Paper several times to remove the color. If needed, use one of the smaller brush tip Water Painters to get some of the watery ink up close to the stamped image. Get more watery ink on the brush tip as needed. Swipe the brush tip across some Grid Paper several times to remove the color.

Gently squeeze one of the smaller tip Water Painters to get some drops of water in the lid. Stir the ink and water together with the brush tip. Pick up some watery ink from the lid using the brush tip. Paint in the dock. Get more watery ink on the brush tip as needed. Set the watercolored vanilla cardstock aside for a bit to let it dry.
Insert the large Crumb Cake rectangle into the Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder and get it lined up straight. Place the folder with the paper inside on your die cutting and embossing tool and run through the machine.
Place the dry embossed Crumb Cake rectangle on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface. Open the Crumb Cake Ink Pad. Drag the edge of the Crumb Cake Ink Pad lightly across the dry embossed Crumb Cake rectangle to add some ink.
If you haven't already done so, ink up the Craft Ink Pad using the Whisper White Craft Ink Refill.
Leave the dry embossed Crumb Cake rectangle on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface. Open the Whisper White Craft Ink Pad. Drag the edge of the Whisper White Craft Ink Pad lightly across the dry embossed Crumb Cake rectangle to add some ink.
Set the colored, dry embossed Crumb Cake rectangle aside to let it dry a bit.
Peel the protective backing off of the Adhesive Sheets rectangle. Adhere the Adhesive Sheets rectangle to the back of the long, skinny Crumb Cake rectangle. Be sure to leave the other protective backing in place for now.
Pick out the long, skinny rope die from the Smooth Sailing Dies. Put it on top of one side of the long skinny Crumb Cake rectangle on a platform on your cutting and embossing tool so the Crumb Cake (light brown) side is facing up. Run through the tool. Use the Take Your Pick Die Brush Tip and Take Your Pick to remove the pieces. Make sure the protective backing for the Adhesive Sheet stays in place for now. Leave the die out.

If the watercolored vanilla image is dry, proceed with the next step.
Tip: You can speed up drying using a Heat Tool if needed.
Mount the "happy birthday" or "here for you" sentiment from the By The Dock Set on an appropriate size block. Ink it up with the Saddle Brown StazOn Ink Pad. Stamp the sentiment in the lower right corner of the watercolored vanilla rectangle so it is about 1/2" from the bottom.
Adhere the watercolored, stamped vanilla rectangle to the center of the Soft Suede rectangle.
Carefully remove the protective backing from the back of one of the long, skinny rope cut outs and adhere it to the top of the Soft Suede rectangle just above the watercolored vanilla rectangle. Carefully remove the protective backing from the back of the other long, skinny rope cut out and adhere it to the bottom of the Soft Suede rectangle just below the watercolored vanilla rectangle.
Cut a 4-1/2" piece of 3/16" Braided Linen Trim.
Lay the trim across the layered cardstock pieces so the trim is just below the stamped sentiment on the watercolored vanilla rectangle. Flip the layers over and fold the ends of the trim over. Adhere the ends of the trim in place with pieces of Tear & Tape Adhesive.
If the dry embossed and colored Crumb Cake rectangle is dry, proceed with the next step.
Tip: You can speed up drying if needed using a Heat Tool.
Remove the protective backing from the Tear & Tape strips and add Stampin' Seal to the back of the Soft Suede rectangle. Adhere it to the dry embossed and colored Crumb Cake rectangle so it is about 1/2" from the bottom.
Adhere the layers to the front of the Soft Suede card.
Cut a 3" piece of 3/16" Braided Linen Trim.
Slide the one end of the trim under the trim on the card front so it is centered under the sentiment. Tie it in place using a half knot. Trim the ends. Fray the ends.
