Barn Door Card (Single Door) |
|
T he Barn Door Bundle was the first on my list when Occasions Catalog came out, so much fun to make and can be use for sooooo many different cards.

1 - Card base card stock 8 1/2" X 5 1/2" scored at 4 1/4"
1 - Front sliding layer card stock 5 1/4" X 4" and embossed with Pinewood Planks TIEF
1 - Neutral card stock for greetings 3 3/4" X 2 3/8"
1 - 2 3/4" X 3 3/4" DSP for door, or card stock and use the door stamp. If you do use DSP add a layer of card behind the door for weight and to help it slide. The die cut with door die.
Card stock to cut out rail, rollers (2) and handle using Sliding Door Framelits.
When you cut the slider holes with the die make sure you leave more room at the top of the layer than the bottom to place the rail.
Several ways to make the door slide, washers (size 6 or 8) window sheet rectangle or window sheet 1/2" circle punch. The washers slide the best, but will cost extra postage, second I like the results with the rectangle of window sheet and the circles of window sheet comes in last for me.
These instructions are for the washers: after you have the embossed layer die cut with the 2 holes start with a washer, then the card layer, the stack 2 mini-dimensionals the 2nd washer and another mini-dimensional, then a glue dot and you do this again 3 more times. You will have 2 across the top of the door and 2 across the bottom of the door. Once all 4 corner slides are done place the door on top. The rail you die cut goes above the top slot on the card layer, the sliders glue to the top of the door ONLY on the rectangle end, the rounded end goes up and doesn't attach to anything, it just looks like they do. When you attach the door handle if you place a tooth pick in the middle of the handle so just the top and bottom are glued, this will give you something to grab to make the door slide. (Thank you Donna Lee for that tip!)
You will want to run a strip of foam adhesive at the top and bottom of the door layer when you attach it to the card front. This keeps the layer raised so the sliders will work.
