P layful Christmas card using the paper-piecing technique and Stampin' Up! products.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock and designer paper pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Garden Green Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Very Vanilla Cardstock
- 2-1/4" x 3-3/4" from Garden Green Cardstock
- 2 pieces each 2" x 3-1/2" from Very Vanilla Cardstock
- 1-1/4" x 2-1/2" from Real Red Cardstock
- 2" x 3-1/2" of green plaid design from Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper
- scrap of green plaid design from Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper
- scrap of red plaid design from Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper
- scraps of Very Vanilla Cardstock
Place the Buffalo Check background stamp rubber side up on Grid Paper on your work surface. Ink up the stamp by pouncing or rubbing the Real Red Ink Pad all over it. Leave the inked up stamp face up on your work surface. Carefully place the 4" x 5-1/4" Very Vanilla rectangle on the stamp. Fold the Grid Paper up and over the top of everything and rub firmly all over. Using the Grid Paper protects your hands from getting ink on them.
Tip: I just clean my background stamps by running them under water until the water runs clear. Then, I let them air dry.
Adhere the stamped Very Vanilla rectangle to the front of the Garden Green card.
As you are ready to stamp using the Merry Moose Photopolymer Set, place the cardstock on the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Using the mat will help you get a cleaner image each time you stamp.
Mount the outline moose image from the Merry Moose Set on Block D. Ink it up with the Memento Ink Pad. Stamp it on one end of one of the 2" x 3-1/2" strips of Very Vanilla leaving room to punch it out.
Unlock the Moose Punch. Hold it upside down so you can see the punching area. Slide the stamped moose image into the punch and get it centered in the punching area. Punch. Leave the punch unlocked.
Tip: Keep the rest of the Very Vanilla strip to use for the scraps of Very Vanilla in later steps.
Put the stamped moose punch out on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface. You need to make sure that you protect your work surface with paper as the Stampin' Blends Markers do bleed through.
Start coloring the moose punch out with the Stampin' Blends Markers. The markers have a brush tip for coloring in larger areas and a fine tip for coloring in smaller areas. Use the dark colors first and then the light colors to blend the colors and color in the spaces. Work on one area at a time so the inks will be wet and will blend easier.
Use the Light and Dark Soft Suede Markers to color in the moose's antlers.
Use the Light and Dark Crumb Cake Markers to color in the moose's head and neck.
Use the Color Lifter Marker as needed to remove excess ink
Don't worry about coloring in the rest of the moose. You will be covering his body with a punched out plaid designer paper piece in a later step.
Hold the unlocked Moose Punch upside down so you can see the punching area. Slide one end of the large strip of Toile Tidings Designer Paper into the punch so the green plaid design is face up. Punch.
Tip: Keep the rest of the Toile Tidings Designer Paper strip to use for the scraps of designer paper in later steps.
Use Paper Snips to cut the head and antlers off of the punched out plaid moose.
Use the Fine-Tip Glue Pen or Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the plaid moose body and legs to the stamped and colored moose punch out as his flannel pajamas.
Cut a 5" piece of Real Red 1/8" Curly Ribbon.
Tie the ribbon around the moose's neck using a knot so it covers the seam between the pajamas and the moose's neck and looks like a scarf. Trim the ends.
Mount the tiny hat image from the Merry Moose Set on Block A. Ink it up with the Memento Pad. Stamp it on the scrap of Toile Tidings Designer Paper on the red plaid side.
Carefully cut out the stamped plaid hat image using Paper Snips.
Tip: Save the rest of the Toile Tidings Designer Paper to use as a scrap in a later step.
Use a tiny bit of Fine-Tip Glue Pen or Multipurpose Liquid Glue along the bottom rim of the hat on the back side to adhere the hat to the moose's head between the antlers.
Mount the raccoon on a log image from the Merry Moose Set on Block B. Ink it up with the Memento Pad. Stamp it on the right side of the remaining 2" x 3-1/2" piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock so it is as close to the right edge as possible and 1/4" from the bottom edge. Leave the stamp on the block.
Put the stamped raccoon on a log strip on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface. You need to make sure that you protect your work surface with paper as the Stampin' Blends Markers do bleed through.
Start coloring the raccoon on a log image with the Stampin' Blends Markers. The markers have a brush tip for coloring in larger areas and a fine tip for coloring in smaller areas. Use the dark colors first and then the light colors to blend the colors and color in the spaces. Work on one area at a time so the inks will be wet and will blend easier.
Use the Light and Dark Soft Suede and Dark Crumb Cake Markers to color in the log.
Use the Light Smoky Slate Marker to color in the raccoon's head, neck, and tail.
Use the Color Lifter Marker as needed to remove excess ink
Don't worry about coloring in the rest of the raccoon. You will be covering his body with a punched out plaid designer paper piece in a later step.
Re-ink the raccoon on a log image on Block B with the Memento Pad. Stamp it on a remaining scrap of Toile Tidings Designer Paper on the green plaid side so you get the raccoon's body.
Carefully cut out the raccoon's body from the green plaid designer paper using Paper Snips.
Adhere the cut out plaid raccoon's body over the stamped and colored raccoon on a log as his flannel pajamas.
Mount the small Christmas ornament image from the Merry Moose Set on Block A. Ink it up with the Real Red Ink Pad. Stamp it on the raccoon on a log image so it looks like the raccoon is holding the ribbon at the top of the ornament. Don't worry if it overlaps the top of the log a bit. Leave the stamp on the block.
Adhere the stamped and colored raccoon on a log vanilla strip to the Garden Green strip, then adhere the matted strip to the center of the card front.
Use Mini Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the moose in pajamas with scarf punch out to the left side of the vanilla strip in the center of the card. Make sure the bottom of the moose's feet are even with the bottom of the log.
Re-ink the small Christmas ornament image on Block A with the Real Red Ink Pad. Stamp it on the remaining scrap of Very Vanilla Cardstock.
Use Paper Snips to carefully cut out the ball of the ornament.
Use a Mini Stampin' Dimensional to adhere the ball of the ornament cut out over the top of the already stamped ornament on the card front.
Mount the "Have a cozy Christmas!" or "Merry Christmoose" sentiment from the Merry Moose Set on Block G. Ink it up with the Memento Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the Real Red rectangle.
Pick out the ticket die from the Stitched Labels Dies. Put it on top of the stamped sentiment on a platform on your cutting and embossing tool so the sentiment is centered. Run through the tool.
Use Mini Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the sentiment ticket cut out to the front of the card so it is over the raccoon's head and overlaps the right edge of the matted vanilla rectangle just a bit.
