P layful, kid-friendly Valentine using Stampin' Up! products.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock and designer paper pieces to the following sizes using a Stampin' Trimmer:
- card from Real Red Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/2" from Granny Apple Green Cardstock
- 2" x 4" from Whisper White Cardstock
- 1" x 4" of one of the patterns of green tropical leaves from Tropical Escape 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper
- 1-1/2" x 4" from Granny Apple Green Cardstock
- 2" square from Real Red Cardstock
Insert the large Granny Apple Green rectangle into the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Use the line printed on the front flap of the folder to help you get the paper straight. Place the folder with the paper inside directly on your Big Shot Platform at the lowest possible setting. Place a Cutting Pad on top of the folder and run through the Big Shot.
VERY IMPORTANT: You are using only ONE Cutting Pad. If you try to use two, the sandwich will be too thick and you could damage the Big Shot.
Mount the alligator stamp from the Hey Love Set on Block E. Ink it up with the Memento Pad. Stamp it on the strip of white cardstock so the hearts on the top of his hat almost touch the top edge and his nose is about 5/8" in from the left side.
Mount the "hey, valentine" sentiment from the Hey Love Set on Block G. Ink it up with the Real Red Ink Pad. Stamp it just to the right of the stamped alligator about 1/2" from the top. WITHOUT re-inking, stamp the sentiment again just below and slightly to the right. Leave the stamp on the block.
Re-ink the sentiment stamp with the Real Red Ink Pad. Stamp it in the center of the smaller rectangle of Granny Apple Green slightly to the right side.
Place the alligator and sentiment stamped white strip on top of some paper on your work surface (Grid Paper works great). You need to make sure that you protect your work surface with paper as the Stampin' Blends Markers do bleed through.
Start coloring with the Stampin' Blends Markers. The markers have a brush tip for coloring in larger areas and a fine tip for coloring in smaller areas. Use the dark colors first and then the light colors to blend the colors and color in the spaces. Work on one area at a time so the inks will be wet and will blend easier.
Use the Light and Dark Shaded Spruce Markers to color in the tail, body, snout, and legs of the alligator.
Use the Light and Dark Granny Apple Green Markers to color in the alligator's stomach, back spikes, and beanie hat.
Use the Dark Real Red Marker to color in the hearts on the beanie hat.
Use the Color Lifter Marker as needed to remove excess ink.
Adhere the stamped and colored white strip to the bottom of the dry embossed large green rectangle so it is about 1" from the bottom.
If your piece of Tropical Escape Designer Series Paper has pink berries on it, place the designer paper on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface. Then, use the Dark Real Red Stampin' Blends to color over the berries to turn them red.
Adhere the strip of Tropical Escape Designer Paper to the bottom of the card so it just touches the bottom edge of the stamped and colored alligator (should be about 1/4" from the bottom).
Pick out the long, single, open banner framelit from the Bunch of Banners Framelits. Place the stamped sentiment on the Granny Apple Green strip on a Cutting Pad on top of the Magnetic Platform on your Big Shot. Place the banner framelit on top so the sentiment is on the right side. Place another Cutting Pad on top and run through the Big Shot.
Poke out the banner with the sentiment and keep it. Also use the Paper-Piercing Tool to poke out the outline banner that is probably stuck inside the framelit, remove it, and throw it away. If you don't remove it, then you will have trouble cutting with this framelit the next time you use it.
Adhere the sentiment banner to the layers so it covers the seam between the white cardstock and designer paper on the left side. Let the left edge of the banner hang off the side. Use Paper Snips to trim off the excess cardstock on the left side.
Cut a 6-1/4" piece of the Real Red 1/8" Solid Ribbon.
Lay the ribbon across the left side of the matted cardstock/designer paper layers just to the left of the sentiment on the banner. Flip the layers over and fold the ends of the ribbon over. Adhere the ends of the ribbon in place with pieces of Tear & Tape Adhesive.
Remove the protective backing from the Tear & Tape strips and add SNAIL to the back of the Granny Apple Green rectangle. Adhere it to the front of the Real Red card so about 1/8" of red shows on the left and right sides.
Cut a 3" piece of the Real Red 1/8" Solid Ribbon.
Slide one end of the ribbon under the ribbon on the card front at the top edge of the white layer and tie it in place using a half knot . Trim the ends.
Pick out the grouping of small open hearts thinlit from the Be Mine Stitched Framelits. Place the Real Red square on the Precision Base Plate on the Platform on the Big Shot. Place the grouping of small open hearts thinlit on top so you will cut out several small hearts. Place a Cutting Pad on top and run through the Big Shot a couple of times. Use the Die Brush and Paper-Piercing Tool to remove the pieces.
Tip: Keep the grouping of outline hearts to use on another project if you wish. You may also have extra small heart cut outs to use on another project.
Using small dots of either Fine-Tip Glue Pen or Multipurpose Liquid Glue, adhere 7 random hearts to the front of the card in an angled line from just above the alligator's head to the upper right corner.
