T
his is a Pop-Out Panel or a Twisted Pop-Out Panel card, it depends on how you see the card.
Anyway, I made this card using the simple directions from Colleen Mitrega. She did a beautiful tutorial which helped me in making this card.
Hope you like it.
Project Recipe
Start off by cutting an 8-1/5" x 11" card stock in half on the 4-1/4" middle of the 8-1/2" edge
You will now have two pieces of 4-1/4" x 11"
Score one of the 4-1/4" x 11" card stock in half at the 5-1/2" center on the 11" edge.
Put this aside for now.
This is the BASE part of your card.
Get the other 4-1/4" x 11" card stock and cut to 10" x 3-1/2" and score at 2-1/2", 5", and 7-1/2" on the 10" edge.
Put this aside for now.
This is the POP-OUT PANEL piece of your card.
You will need another piece of card stock. You can use the same color or a coordinating color. I used the same color for this project.
Cut the card stock at 8" x 3-1/2" and score at 1-3/4" down the middle on the 3-1/2" edge.
This is the MECHANICAL piece of your card.
Turn the 8" x 3-1/2" card stock (MECHANICAL piece) 90 degrees.
Put a pencil mark at 2-1/4" and 5-3/4" both top and bottom.
Now you are going to score from the top 2-1/4" mark down to the bottom 5-3/4" mark
Then score from the top 5-3/4" mark to the bottom 2-3/4" mark
You should now have an 'X' with a straight line going through it.
Now make a MOUNTAIN fold on the 1-3/4" horizontal score line of the MECHANICAL piece.
Turn the card stock so that the Mountain fold you just made is vertical.
Make a VALLEY fold on the right cross score line by taking the bottom right corner and folding it over to the left on one of the 'X' score lines
Make a another VALLEY fold on the left cross score line by taking the bottom left corner and folding it over to the right on one of the 'X' score line.
You need to reinforce the score lines by folding the center line into a Mountain fold on the right and left sides of the 'X'.
Then make a Valley fold on the Right and Left 'X' folds.
Your card stock should now look like an Arrow or a House depending on how you see it.
Now get the 8" x 3-1/2" (Pop-Out Panel) card stock and fold it into a 'M' by folding the center score line into a Mountain fold and the outer right and left score lines into a Valley fold
You should now have three pieces of card stock;
The BASE piece (left), 11" x 4-1/4" scored at 5-1/2"
The MECHANICAL piece (middle), 8" x 3-1/2" scored horizontally at 1-3/4" and scored vertically at 2-1/4" and 5-3/4" in the form of an 'X'
The POP-OUT piece (right), 10" x 3-1/2" scored at 2-1/2", 5" and 7-1/2"
Get the MECHANICAL piece and put strong tape or glue on the front and back of the triangle part of this piece.
I used Orange Sticky Tape because it's very strong. However, you can also use Tombow multipurpose glue.
Get the BASE piece and if you want to put some Designer Series Paper (DSP) you will want to do that now.
You will need to put a pencil mark on the score line right at the center.
Get the MECHANICAL piece with the strong tape and put the point right at the center pencil mark and make sure the entire piece is centered on the BASE card.
Take off the orange protective cover off the tape and then fold the BASE onto the MECHANICAL piece.
Turn the card over and take the orange protective cover off the tape and then fold the BASE onto the other side of the MECHANICAL piece.
Get the POP-OUT PANEL piece and fold it on the score lines.
Line up the top and bottom of the POP-OUT PANEL to the MECHANICAL piece making sure the two VALLEY folds are at the center of the MECHANICAL piece.
The POP-OUT PANEL should be to the right of the center score line.
Now make an "X' in pencil in the upper right corner on the MECHANICAL piece and draw a line next to the fold line and on the score line putting the 'X' in a box
Now, flip the POP-OUT PANEL over the left side on the MECHANICAL piece and do the same thing except you will put an 'x' on the bottom left corner
Line up the top and bottom of the POP-OUT PANEL to the MECHANICAL piece making sure the two VALLEY folds are at the center of the MECHANICAL piece.
The POP-OUT PANEL should be to the left of the center score line.
Now make an "X' in pencil in the bottom left corner on the MECHANICAL piece and draw a line next to the fold line and on the score line putting the 'X' in a box
Now move the POP-OUT PANEL aside and put some strong tape or adhesive on the 'X' marks you made.
Then get the POP-OUT PANEL and lay it on the MECHANICAL piece lining up the tops and bottoms with the center fold on top of the center of the MECHANICAL piece. It may help to put a small pencil mark at the center top and bottom of the MECHANICAL piece on the BASE piece.
Remove the protective tape covers off the right corner and take the right panel of the POP-OUT PANEL and open it onto the upper right corner of the MECHANICAL piece pressing it onto the tape.
Take the tape protective tape cover off the bottom left and open the left panel of the POP-OUT PANEL and press it onto the tape on the MECHANICAL piece
Now your POP-OUT PANEL card is done.
You may want to open and close the card several times to train the folds.
