T he Warmth & Cheer and This Christmas designer series paper packs combine for a festively vintage, fun Christmas card. Oh, what fun!
Project Recipe
Tips for making this card:
1) I laid out the entire card before ever cutting the star in the music paper (from the This Christmas paper). This helps you know exactly where to place your Stars framelit when you cut it.
2) After you cut out the star using the Stars framelits (I think this is the 3rd-largest star), lay the music paper on the Cherry Cobbler card base to determine exactly where to stamp the scrollwork star from the Festive Season stamp set. Stamp the star in Cherry Cobbler ink before you sponge, curl, and glue the music paper down.
3) To get the old, vintage look, I first sponged around the edges of the music paper with Crumb Cake ink. I didn't want the card to be too drab, so I used a light touch here. To curl the corners of the paper, I used my bone folder as you would a pencil, to break down the fibers in the paper and curl it.
4) I used the Layering Squares framelits to cut the (mostly) Garden Green square and the Large Numbers framelits to cut the (mostly) Cherry Cobbler numbers from the Warmth & Cheer paper stack (LOVE this stack!). I played with the numbers until I could the dotted pattern lines in the numbers to align with the dotted pattern lines in the Garden Green square. I was so excited when I finally got them to work! But it was also not centered very well, so after I glued down the numbers, I trimmed around them until they were centered. So I used the Layering Squares framelits, but you could do this using just your paper trimmer.
5) For my "oh, what fun" label, I first stamped the sentiment (from the Oh What Fun stamp set) in Garden Green, then cut it out using one of the label framelits from the Project Life Cards & Labels dies. Then I stamped on some splatters using Crumb Cake ink and the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set (this is one of the most important stamp sets to have in your arsenal! So much texture from one set!). I spritzed the label with water, using my Stampin' Spritzer, waited until the ink finished running, then crumbled up the paper. Then opened it back up, laid it out, and let it dry. After the label was dry, I flicked on some Gold Wink of Stella, just enough to give a tiny sparkle.
The label is the only part of my card that uses Dimensionals. Can you believe I made a card using only three Dimensionals? It's a record for me. #allthedimensionals
6) The Linen Thread is a must-have for vintage-look cards. It just has that old-timey, homey feel, right? I tied a bow and glued that down using the Multipurpose Liquid Glue (the thread makes a bow too small for a Glue Dot). I was going to trim the ends of my bow, but I kind of liked how it curled off the edge of the card, so I left it. Because why not?
7) My favorite little touch is the strip of Basic Black cardstock that you can barely see at the top of the card. I actually meant to glue the music paper down just a smidge lower than I did so the black would show a little more, but I was so busy watching to make sure I was off-center horizontally that I forgot to check where my paper was vertically.
8) I wanted the inside of the card to recall elements from the front of the card, so I again added a strip of Basic Black, the Crumb Cake spots from Gorgeous Grunge, and a smaller Star cut from the same Warmth & Cheer paper. The inside sentiment is from the Hang Your Stocking stamp set.
