F un fold card using the bokeh technique and heat embossing with Stampin' Up! products.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock pieces to the following sizes using a Stampin' Trimmer:
- card from Balmy Blue Cardstock at 4-1/4" x 10-3/4" and scored at 3-1/2" and 7-1/8"
- 3-1/2" square from Whisper White Cardstock
- 2-1/4" x 3-5/8" from Whisper White Cardstock
- 3-1/4" x 4" from Whisper White Cardstock
- 2 pieces each 3" square from Window Sheets
Put a teeny, tiny dab of SNAIL in the middle of the 3-1/4" x 4" white rectangle on the back. Adhere it to the center of the Silicone Craft Sheet.
Cut a Stamping Sponge into quarters. This gives you more sponges to work with and gives you a little more control as you use the sponge.
Rub the rounded edge of a Stamping Sponge quarter across the open Balmy Blue Ink Pad to get it inky. Then, lightly rub it across the entire white rectangle in swirling motions. Get more ink on the sponge quarter as needed. Keep adding ink until you have the color saturation you want. You don't want too much ink on the cardstock.
Tip: I just clean my Stamping Sponge pieces when I'm done using them by running them under water until no more color is coming off. Then, I let them air dry. They may be stained, but they are clean enough to use with any color of ink in the future.
Pick out the 2 circle framelits from the Layering Circles Framelits that cut out a 1-5/8" circle and a 1-1/16" circle. One at a time, place a Window Sheet square on the Cutting Pad on top of the Platform on the Big Shot. Place one of the circle framelits on top in the center. Place another Cutting Pad on top and run through the Big Shot. When you are done, you should have two squares of Window Sheets with a different size of circle cut out of the center of each. These are your stencils for sponging the circles on the cardstock.
Tip: If you don't have Window Sheets, you can cut the circles from squares of cardstock instead. I like to use the Window Sheets though because they are sturdier, are easy to clean and use again, and you can easily see exactly where you are sponging since they are clear.
Tip: When done using the circle stencils, rinse them clean in running water and allow them to air dry. You can use these stencils again and again on future projects.
Rub a Sponge Dauber across the open Balmy Blue Ink Pad to get it inky. Use the Window Sheet stencil with the 1-5/8" circle cut out of the center to stencil some Balmy Blue circles randomly onto the sponged white cardstock by rubbing the inky dauber onto the cardstock through the stencil. Get more ink on the dauber as needed. Keep adding ink until you have the color saturation you want. Let some of the circles go off the edge of the cardstock.
Tip: I just clean my Sponge Daubers when I'm done using them by running them under water until no more color is coming off. Then, I let them air dry. They may be stained, but they are clean enough to use with any color of ink in the future.
Tip: Clean the Window Sheet stencil by running it under water until no more color is coming off. Then, let it air dry. You can use it again on future projects.
If you haven't already done so, ink up the Uninked Pad by squeezing some of the Whisper White Craft Ink Refill onto the pad and spreading it around while mushing it into the pad.
Tip: You can use a Palette Knife, the back of a plastic spoon, or the edge of an expired credit or gift card to rub the ink into the pad.
Rub a Sponge Dauber across the open Whisper White Craft Ink Pad to get it inky. Use the Window Sheet stencil with the 1-1/16" circle cut out of the center to stencil some Whisper White circles randomly onto the cardstock by rubbing the inky dauber onto the cardstock through the stencil. Get more ink on the dauber as needed. Keep adding ink until you have the color saturation you want. Let some of the circles go off the edge of the cardstock and let some of them overlap the previously stenciled circles.
Carefully remove the bokeh background white cardstock piece from the Silicone Craft Sheet and set it aside to let it dry.
Tip: Wipe the Silicone Craft Sheet clean with a baby wipe or run it under running water. Let air dry.
Fold the Balmy Blue Cardstock on all score lines and then unfold.
Pick out the circle framelit from the Layering Circles Framelits that cuts out a circle that is 2-3/8" in diameter. Place the opened card on the Cutting Pad on top of the Magnetic Platform on the Big Shot so that the panel that is 3-5/8" wide is securely on the Cutting Pad. Place the circle framelit on top of the 3-5/8" wide panel so the framelit is centered in the panel from side to side and is about 1/2" from the top. Place another Cutting Pad on top and run through the Big Shot. Keep the circle framelit out as you will use it on the next step.
Pick out the scalloped circle framelit from the Layering Circles Framelits that cuts out a scalloped circle that is 3-1/16" in diameter. Place the 3-1/2" white square on the Cutting Pad on top of the Magnetic Platform on the Big Shot. Place the scalloped circle framelit on top. Place the 2-3/8" circle framelit inside the scalloped circle framelit so it is centered. Place another Cutting Pad on top and run through the Big Shot.
Adhere the scalloped circle outline to the front of the card so it is centered over the circle cut into the front of the card.
Mount the set of three dandelions image from the Dandelion Wishes Set on Block E. Ink it up with the Whisper White Craft Ink Pad. Stamp it on the left side of the remaining white strip so the left edge of the stamp goes off the left edge of the cardstock and the tops of the dandelions are about 1/2" from the top of the cardstock. Re-ink the stamp with the Whisper White Craft Ink and stamp it again just to the right of the first stamped image. Make sure the tops of the dandelions are still about 1/2" from the top and the right edge of the stamp goes off the right edge of the cardstock.
Lay the dandelion stamped cardstock strip on top of the Grid Paper in the center. Sprinkle on some White Stampin' Emboss Powder so it covers all of the stamped images. Tap off excess powder. Return the excess powder to the container to use again later.
Heat the powder with the Heat Tool until it is completely melted (smooth and shiny).
Tip: When heat embossing a small piece of cardstock, hold the cardstock with a clothespin to keep from burning your fingers.
Rub the rounded edge of a Stamping Sponge quarter across the open Balmy Blue Ink Pad to get it inky. Then, lightly rub it across the entire heat embossed rectangle in swirling motions. Get more ink on the sponge quarter as needed. Keep adding ink until you have the color saturation you want. Buff off excess ink on the embossed images using a clean tissue or paper towel.
Tip: I just clean my Stamping Sponge pieces when I'm done using them by running them under water until no more color is coming off. Then, I let them air dry. They may be stained, but they are clean enough to use with any color of ink in the future.
Use your fingers to tear the top edge off the cardstock just above the top edges of the dandelions.
Adhere the torn, heat embossed, and sponged strip to the front of the card on the bottom so it just overlaps the bottom of the circle cut in the front of the card.
Cut a 4" piece of Whisper White 3/8" Classic Weave Ribbon.
Tie a half knot in the center of the ribbon and trim the ends.
Use a Mini Glue Dot to adhere the ribbon to the front of the card at a slight angle on the lower right side of the circle cut in the front.
If your bokeh background piece is dry, proceed to the next step. If it is not dry, then use the Heat Tool to speed up the drying.
WITHOUT adhering it, place the bokeh background on the top of the right side of the card when the card is folded closed.
Mount the sentiment of choice from the Dandelion Wishes Set on Block C. Ink it up with the Blackberry Bliss Ink Pad. Stamp it on the bokeh background so it is centered in the circle cut out side to side and slightly more to the top by stamping through the circle cut in the card front.
Carefully remove the bokeh background piece from the card. Let the sentiment dry for a minute or two.
Once the sentiment is completely dry, rub the Embossing Buddy all over the bokeh background piece. This will help to make sure that all of the ink is dry so you only get embossing powder sticking where you want it on the next couple of steps.
Mount the dandelion with blowing seeds image from the Dandelion Wishes Set on Block E. Ink it up with the Whisper White Craft Ink Pad. Stamp it on the bottom of the bokeh background so the dandelion seeds are just below the sentiment and the dandelion just touches the left edge of the cardstock.
Lay the sentiment stamped cardstock strip on top of the Grid Paper in the center. Sprinkle on some White Stampin' Emboss Powder so it covers all of the stamped dandelion and seeds.
Adhere the stamped and heat embossed bokeh background on the top of the right side of the card when the card is folded closed.
