F un thank you card using Stampin' Up! products and faux tearing technique.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock, pieces to the following sizes using a Stampin' Trimmer:
- card from Lovely Lipstick Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Basic Gray Cardstock
- 3-3/4" x 5" from Whisper White Cardstock
Place the Stamparatus in front of you with the open sides of the Stamparatus on the left and bottom. Insert one hinged plate into the Stamparatus on the right side.
Place the Whisper White rectangle on the Stamparatus base so it is as far as possible into the upper right corner with a long side running horizontally across the top. Pick out the "thanks for that thing you did" sentiment from the All Things Thanks Set. Place it upside down on the white cardstock on the Stamparatus so it is about 1" from the top and about 1/4" in from the right side. Close the plate on the Stamparatus and press firmly so the stamp sticks to the plate. Open the plate.
Remove the white cardstock from the Stamparatus.
Ink up the stamp on the plate using the Lovely Lipstick Ink Pad. If you get excess ink on the plate, you can wipe it off with a baby wipe or tissue. Put a piece of scratch paper (or a 7-1/4" square of Grid Paper) on the Stamparatus. Close the plate onto the paper and press down firmly. Open the plate. Check to make sure the sentiment stamped right side up and straight. If not, adjust the stamp on the plate and try again. When happy with the positioning of the stamp, proceed to the next step.
Tip: Slide a Clear-Mount Stamp Case under the plate before inking up the stamp. This gives you a firm, flat surface to push against making it easier to ink up the stamp.
Tip: If you have an Lovely Lipstick Stampin' Spot on hand, use it to ink up the stamp instead of a full sized ink pad. It will give you more control and will help keep stray ink from getting on the plate.
When you are happy with the placement of the sentiment stamp on the Stamparatus plate, put the piece of white cardstock back on the Stamparatus like before. Re-ink the sentiment stamp with Lovely Lipstick Ink. Close the plate onto the cardstock and press down firmly. Open the plate. If you are not happy with the coverage you got, you can close the plate again and press firmly again or re-ink the stamp and try again.
Move the white cardstock down so that the sentiment will stamp just above the previously stamped sentiment. WITHOUT re-inking the stamp, close the plate and press firmly. Open the plate. Remove the cardstock.
Remove the plate from the hinges and then reinsert it in the hinges two steps down. Re-ink the stamp on the plate and stamp on the Grid Paper. Put the cardstock back on the base of the Stamparatus so the sentiment will stamp just below the first stamped sentiment. WITHOUT re-inking the stamp, close the plate and press firmly. Open the plate. Remove the cardstock.
Tear a piece of copy paper in half. Lay the torn copy paper on the stamped white cardstock so it covers the stamped sentiments with the torn edge of the copy paper on the left of the sentiments. Make sure you have some Grid Paper under the cardstock to protect your work surface.
Tip: If desired, you can help hold the cardstock and torn copy paper in place using washi tape.
Roll a Sponge Brayer across the open Lovely Lipstick Ink Pad to get it inky. Then, roll the inky brayer onto the exposed side of the stamped white cardstock until it is completely covered in ink. Get more ink on the brayer as needed. Leave the torn copy paper in place on top of the cardstock.
Mount the scissors image from the Crafting Forever Set on Block C. Ink it up with the Basic Gray Ink Pad. Stamp it randomly all over the exposed side of the cardstock. Remember to re-ink the stamp each time. Change the orientation of the stamp every so often. Let some of the images stamp off the edges of the cardstock onto the torn edge of the copy paper or the Grid Paper under the cardstock.
Mount the clothespin wrapped in baker's twine mage from the Crafting Forever Set on Block C.
Mount the rubber stamp image from the Crafting Forever Set on Block B.
Slide the torn copy paper over a tiny bit to the right (closer to the stamped sentiments) exposing a small amount of white cardstock. Roll the brayer across the exposed section of cardstock WITHOUT adding more ink to the brayer so you get a lighter color (looking like a torn edge). Carefully remove the copy paper.
Tip: I just clean my Sponge Brayers when I'm done using them by running them under water until no more color is coming off. Then, I let them air dry. They may be stained, but they are clean enough to use with any color of ink in the future.
Adhere the stamped and colored white cardstock to the Basic Gray rectangle and then to the front of the Lovely Lipstick card.
Pick out a large Lovely Lipstick button from the Tinted Faceted Buttons. Use a Mini Glue Dot to adhere it to the card front so it is centered over the faux torn edge just to the left of the bottom of the main sentiment (center sentiment, stamped full strength).
Cut a 3" piece of Lovely Lipstick 1/8" Grosgrain Ribbon. Tie a half knot in the center. Trim the ends. Adhere the ribbon knot to the center of the button using a Mini Glue Dot.
